cooling 2 600watt hps

I am looking at installing 2 600 watt hps air cooled hoods. I will probably use "cool tubes" because they seem to cool well. im undecided on the hood but they will be air cooled. My question is in regards to the optimum fan placement. I am willing to buy plenty of fans and what ever size. heres what im debating, assuming 6" fans:

outside<fan<light<light<fan<outside
or
outside<fan<light<outside OR outside<light<fan<outside (for each light)

please give your insight here. i am assuming that one fan per light will be plenty, im just not sure of proper placement

just get a 12" fan and you should be fine with it working well for both lights. i run 1 1000w light in a XXXl 8" Magnum hood with 1 8' exhaust fan. seems to keep the glass on hood a liitle warmer. with out the fan it would def burn my hand to to the touch. i can put my hand on the glass on its hot, but not burning hot. the room is 77 with the fan and light on, and 79 with them both off. i have my set up going: hood>ducting>fan>ducting>outside. i need to figure out a way to install a filter at the end. but its looking like not many companies make them were i can connect both ends to ducting. so im going to be freaking out here within the next few weeks if i can not come to a quick solution! good luck with your ventures.

I use a 600w lumatek in a SUNSYSTEMS BLOCKBUSTER 6" aircooled hood with 1x400CFM (660m3h) fan. Glass is COLD to the touch. Cold air feed for your hoods, straight as possible duct work etc and a decent +600CFM fan and you'll be golden.

With a sealed hood system you'll then need to create air exchange with intakes and filtered exhausts for your growroom, unless you plan on growing "Texas" style, sealed room AC de/humidifier Co2 etc.

i have great airflow and can keep temps in my room down very well right now. I am just interested in fan placement. I plan on using fresh air to cool sealed hoods so that air is never mixed with the air from the room. Should i have the fans blow air over the lights and out or should the fan suck air in, over the lights, through the fan, blowing it out.

thinking ill end up just having to fuck with it. i want both lights in a direct line with eacother and the intake can come straight in and exhaust can go straight out. very little bends needed

I have tried both ways pushing and pulling through hoods , either will work well enough, due to room size i mount my fans in my attic and have my lighting fan pulling through 6ft of insulated ducting then through my hood then another 6ft of duct to a vent on my roof line pulling cool air from outside.

okay with nothing on the other end of the fan? attic<fan<6'<hood<6'<outside would this be right?

this seems to be nice. The way i want to set the lights up though, i want to "daisy chain" 2 lights and keep them at the same height. I know that the daisy chain method reduces effectiveness so im trying to discover if one fan will work for them both. if i should do each 600watt light with its own fan, thats fine but setting them up at the same height with seperate ducting sounds just like it wont work. just wanting advice on daisy chaining 2 600's. how much fan would you recommend to keep the both nice and cool, and how do you suggest it get set up?

:mrgreen:first fan pulling from out side then line from that to first light then other then to other fan and keep pushing it out .. try to keep all lines str8 if you can cus it slows down the air when ever it has to make a turn..soooo line fan line light light line fan line out ...

im hoping that 2 x 435 cfm 6" fans will work. I have some 8" fans for my air circulation and dont want to run 2 more 8's lol

If you have 2x435 fans now i would seperate off each light into its own sealed system and forget about daisy chaining.

By adding a fan before lights and after lights your still only pulling and pushing 435cfm's. NOT 870.

Intake --- Hood --- Fan --- Out

i dont have anything yet for this. I am wondering what would be the coolest way to run 2 600 watt lights

Definitely blow over the air cooled reflector. It will save your fans life instead of break in a few years or less. I go from hepa filter outside to six inch ducting to my fan then six in ducting blowing through my two 600w sealed reflectors to six in ducting and i throw a muffin fan in there cuz theyre simple and cheap. because i grow in my attic. and its still nearly impossible to grow in the summer with that setup. I've had re-vegging issues within the last two weeks of flowering in june before.

Hey just a little advice I can't work out how to start a thread embarrassing really..
I have roughly a 2 meter square built in cupboard roughly.
Previous attempts were noisy so I want my fans in the loft roughly 3 meters away with one 90 bend out the top of cupboard i am planning to push through carbon filter with 180 cfm fan on prim air fan controller I know it hums!!
this works ok.
A small inline for intake {the little bathroom type} on a meter run for intake also on controller.. brings air from outside
A 600w cool tube 6'' with reducers with 280 cfm 5'' fan
the cool tube will be a meter high from base of cupboard..
so there will be a 90 bend either side of tube straight up then two 90 bends and 3 meter straight run then fan on separate controller bringing air from outside
All insulated ducting.
Is the cool tube going to work with this ducting I want to push air through the light
Dont want to over heat the fan.
What do people think about the temp I will get with this?

i dont push air through anything....i pull air through.....

carbon filter > ducting > 6" hood > ducting > exhaust fan > ducting out of room

i have 2 fan circulating air and blowing directly on my ladies. your temp will all come down to have you are ventilating and also the current temp of your grow....for instance, i have the heat on in my place, so i am already starting at about 70 degrees.

I see your point there it is after all winter time coming things will certainly be different come summer..
where the light is concerned I will have to stick with pushing air through as I know all that heat through the fan is not good.
The fan for the lights is separate and other than the sharp bends which I am stuck with either side of the light there would be no filter to kill the flow.
I might switch the fan for the filter round though as I can see the smell getting out.
Why do you say not to push the air have you tried it and found it bad ?

i have been told by good growers and heads at the hydro stores ive gone to for the last couple years that pushing air through your carbon filter can actually clog your carbon filter. i know that you will not get the same lifespan out of your filter if youre pushing through it. what kind of area are you growing"? tent, closet, garage, basement, extra bedroom...? given my situation, i am using tents...i suspend my filter from inside the top of the tent > ducting > 6" hood > ducting > exhaust fan > ducting > out the tent.
trust me that your setup with be much more efficient running it this way. just make sure that your exhaust fan cfm;s match up with your filter and you're money. my filter is 6x24 phat filter 500 cfm and my exhaust is vortex 6" 450ish cfm....haven't had anything issues....little heat that keeps my house temps in check. hope this helps. let me know if you need me to clear anything up.

i cool a 600 + 400 in cool shade with a 6 inch 450 cfm fan this same fan also pulls through a carbon filter and temps are around the 72 degrees, when it was warmer outside the temps were 78-79.

I've heard that to about the clogging up... apparently if you put screen, tights or something over the other end of the duct it can help avoid this.
The fan for the carbon filter is just a 4'' this is just to get rid of smell and extra heat the cool tube misses, The other fan will take care of the tube 280 cfm should be enough, The room is getting there now so will find out trial and error I guess.
Thanks for the replies though.
