I've been runnin a 400w hps, no cool-tube, for a couple grows now, but after hearing what some of u guys are yeilding with the same light, I've been trying to get ne set up for my light. Basically, my light has just a plain ole batwing style hood, and i got my cooltube strapped on it, BUT it has what i would call an 'open end' without ventillation ducting, which i believe is making MY tube setup basically usless. I'll post a pic so u guys can see what i mean. I was hopin some of u 'cool-tubers' could help me out? I was tryin to avoid takin apart the whole hood and light socket, cuz i'm no electrician, but it doesn't look like it'll work that way.

not useless if it has one end open and an inline or squeral fan on the other end, the idea is to have air flowing over the bulb encased, i would make sure the bulb aint touchin the pipe tho...

You'll easily make back the $70 investment in your yield vs. trying to grow in the heat without a cooltube. And you'll cut potential root rot, spider mite, stretching, fluffy bud just by keeping those temps in spec. You're going to need an exhaust fan along with the tube though, or its all really worthless. With a strong enough fan you'd be able to hold on to that tube all day without hurting yourself.

U woulndn't believe how impossible it is to find a fan around here! Now that it's winter, it's nearly impossible. No worries, the bulb aint touchin nowhere, i got 1/2" on the bottom there. For now I've got the ac blowin into the tube, kinda sketchy. I May have to get one of those squirrel fans online though, a bad ass one that blows like hell. There's no way in hell u could hold on to my tube right now, yet i can feel somewhat cooler air coming out the other end.

if there's air flow actually hitting the bulb then it is working as air flow, better then nuthing

$70 cool tube? Man I paid $102 for mine. Shit works good though, should have ultra dense nugs come harvest time, its only 8" away on a 600. 440 cfm can fan pulling all the air through 60 pounds of carbon scrubber before being whisked through the 6" tube to cool light.
