I have a dilemma..

Right now, I have a 400W HPS/MH ( running the MH at the moment ) and i'm having servere temp issues.. I have a steath closet box that is 4'wide 2 1/2' deep and 5 1/2' tall... I have plenty of intake and exhaust but only out of the box and not the out of the closet. My temps after the MH is on for a while gets above 85 and after 18 or so hrs the temps have hit 98-100 with the box and closet doors shut.. I have realized that I am going to have to vent the heat out through the closet ceiling and into the attic via a hole that I will have to cut. I have decided to just sell my 400W HPS/MH kit ( has a reg batwing reflector ) to a friend of mine, and purchase a 600W ( lol I know, sounds crazy since i'm already having temp probs.. But read on.. ) HPS kit and get one of the cooled reflectors above.. Thus venting some of the heat out into the attic from the bulb along with the ambient heat from the box.. My question is, which one of those reflectors will give the best bang for buck cooling and light distribution for my box/closet? I would like to keep temps below 80 if at all possible and still be able to keep both the box and closet doors closed.

So, which one of the three reflectors is the most efficient and easiest to cool ?

Im leaning toward the 6'' Cooltube... Opinions?

I am still learning on cooltubes myself SO take my advice with grain of salt BUT would seem to me that the cool tube would give you more options

Yea I agree,plus the cooltube looks like it will put out a more spead out beam of light?.. I could very well be wrong though as its known to have happened before ( me being wrong that is ,lol ) But im not sure if the euro or the easycool wouldnt be a better choice since my space is only 2 1/2 ft deep by 4 ft wide by 5 1/2 ft tall so I dont really need a wide coverage area, rather more of a focused,concentrated beam.. ARGH.. I dont know which one to get now.

The Cooltube is definetly going to cool the best.. light distribution wont be, but with a cab that size.. a 600watt cooltube should give you all the light you need. With the right fans and both your cooltube exhaust and cab exhaust going straight up into the attic.. you should have no problem at all keeping the thing under 80 degrees.

thx for the reply.. I have been looking at diff fans online and those 6'' vortex fans are nice looking but theres no way I can afford one of those after all the cash ive spent on the rest of the stuff dammit... What is the least expensive alternatives that will get the job done? Im thinking ill need 2 at least.. I already have 6 120mm PC fans and 1 200 mm PC fans I have been using for intake and exhaust for the cab.. But there not going to work for the cooltube or venting into the attic im sure.. Can anyone suggest a much cheaper alternative to the Vortex fans?

Well i guess you have a couple options.. if you wanted to use two fans you could cool the tube with a six inch duct booster, they range from 160 to 250 cfm and you can pick one up for under $50. And then exhaust the cab with a 6" inline. As a cheap alternative to the Vortex, you might check out the Eco Plus Inline Supreme Series. They dont offer the 10 year warranty but are still good quality and run about $50 cheaper. However, those two will most likely sound like your firing up a jet in your closet. The quietest inlines that i've run across are the S&P Mixvent Series.

OR..

You could use just one Large inline fan to cool the whole thing, just pull the air from inside the cab through the cooltube and up into the attic. Without a large enough fan however, the tube might not cool so well this way. If you are concerned about noise at all I would recommend the two smaller fans and insulate the hell out of them.

In both cases i would recommend keeping the pc fans inside to blow the air around and promote healthy stems. And aim one or two at the cooltube.

I use a Cooltube with a 400w HPS in a 1 meter grow tent, ventilation is a 435 cfm 6" centrifugal blower pulling air from filter>Cooltube>exhaust under the house. The blower is way overkill but I figured I might need the capacity later

Interior of the tent stays about 4-7 degrees above room temp.

I had the same issue with 400 bought a air cooled reflector with ducting out of my tent with booster taking warm air out... i was getting temps of 100 not its around 80... but i have to figure out a way to get cool fresh air in there or convert the warm air into cool air...

Have a hood (stays nice and cool).
But wish I got a tube instead. You can change the reflector to change the spread (though spreading to a bigger area then you have light for is another topic)

If I was to do it over again, I'd opt for the tube. More flexibility for different/changing rooms.

Im putting together a cab just a little larger than yours and have been talking with the fellas at HTG quite a bit. The easy cool 6 with their 250 cfm inline duct fan should work very well and will be quiet.

As to exhaust, if you're running through a 4" carbon filter, they told me almost noone ever thinks about it but it works very well; using their 500+ cfm inline duct fan with a reducer down to 6" then another down to 4" will give you the same pull as a 250 cfm can fan...just MUCH quieter and MUCH cheaper...thats the way I decided to go....but this is just info I've gotten from them so please verify.

THe cooltube is definately the way to go for temp issues. As for that fan, if it is just a muffin style booster fan its not going to move enough air to keep that bastard cool, i hate to tell you this, but you need to spend some money to do it. no thanks.. Im not a dealer, so money is a big factor.. Ill take my chance on the "cheapo" 250cfm fan. For now at least. IM not going to be running it through a filter right now.. Just out of the cab..

Go with the tube. Works good for me. If you plan on using the $25 fan it must be for the light only. I have one and it works for short ducting with no blockages only. If you give it any static pressure it dies fast. If you plan on using the fan for the light and carbon filtered exhaust get the $99 4" inline or even the $139 fan/filter combo. Getting that one myself.
