Absolutely hilarious how people around here are supporting her.

The Washington Free Beacon's finding that Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) had locked up at least 1,560 people for marijuana-related offenses while she was California's attorney general was off, according to California's Department of Corrections, which now says at least 1,974 were admitted to prison under Harris.

The February report came under renewed scrutiny after it was cited by Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) in an attack on Harris during Wednesday night's Democratic primary debate. The Harris campaign responded by labeling the statistic a "lie," but a fact check by the San Francisco Chronicle found that even more people were put in prison for marijuana-related offenses than initially estimated.

So now the DA is in the court room for petty Marijuana crimes?

Harris specialized in prosecuting sex crimes. She is better at it than pretty much anyone has ever been. This thread (by a die hard Trump supporter) is garbage.

Kamala Harris just introduced (she's a senator now) a bill to deschedule marijuana and expunge convictions for marijuana related offenses.

You're terrified of her because she's going to toss Trump in the Slammer.

and we laugh @ you...you addle brained moo-calf...
I destroy you guys here on the daily basis, its actually pretty fun. Of course you would be butt-hurt about it.
That's twice in 5 minutes that you have posted fake news.
what is fake about it? Can you show that 1900 people were not put in jail for marijuana under her guidelines? And yes, the DA sets prosecution standards/guidelines.

Even if she did change her position now, then its called a major flip-flop

The DA does not in fact decide what is illegal and what is not. For example, Donald Trump is going to be prosecuted in criminal court for obstruction of justice and nothing can be done to help him by any district attorney.

1900 people broke the law and got punished. Bad law. You should support Harris's bill to deschedule marijuana and expunge convictions for marijuana related offenses.

Squaredoucher probably got caught with a nickel of brick weed and expected the DA to order the prosecutor to get out of bed and tear up the ticket.

Just pay your fucking ticket.

yes they do actually. They decide which cases to prosecute and which crimes have priority, and which ones do not have priority.

For example, if a DA wanted to crack down on property crimes, they would step up enforcement and prosecution of property crime violations. Or if they didn't want to enforce certain things (like immigration status), then they wouldn't.

No. They are not lawmakers. Nor do they unilaterally decide what to prosecute. They are beholden to the governor or mayor of the district in which they are elected DA. The job of the DA is absolutely to never project their personal views onto any court case but to uphold their fiduciary duties to the state.

In fact, a breach of this duty is impeachable.

I wouldn't expect a Russian to understand this as courts in Russia have 105% conviction rates mandated by Putin himself.

Having Kamala Harris as DA was amazing for California. With such rampant racial inquality in the courts and police departments in the state, she was the one who made the reforms to bring objectivity back into the system.

Her record as a prosecutor is impeccable. Marijuana arrests dropped precipitously during her time in office and our state is exemplary in its legal fairness as a result.

Also, you need to stop lying about being from my hometown.

That's what Gabbard gets for reading radical right wing rags and using the "information" therein for her attacks on democrats.
Were Tulsi Gabbard’s attacks on Kamala Harris’ record as a California prosecutor on target?
There’s some context missing in this claim, and it’s framed in a misleading way. We couldn’t independently verify the 1,500 figure, which is cited in a February article by the Free Beacon, a conservative online news website.

Notably, the figures dropped dramatically during Harris’ tenure, from 817 marijuana-related admissions in her first year in office to 137 in her last.
