Costumes

Has anyone else noticed how many people wear costumes?

When ever I see a biker, goth kid, wigger, trucker or any other type of flamboyant dress I can't help but think that it is somehow the product of some type of maladjustment.

Now some of these are cultural. When I go into Detroit I see all kinds of getups - many look like they are circus clown getups. But, this seems more of a cultural thing because the majority dress that way. Cowboy getups are also a cultural thing if you live in a rural area - and what kid didn't want to be a cowboy.

But, when I see some idiot who is a full out biker with all that silly apparel or when I see some dope with 40 piercings in his face I can't help but wonder why people feel the need to act that way.

And I know I have spoken on this quite a bit, but I would be remiss if i did not mention your flaming homosexual or bull dyke. I remember being in college and standing next to two women talking. one was dressed like a trucker and she even was able to perfectly mimic trucker body language and mannerisms. What was particularly obvious was her exaggerated, wide gate which is a masculine display of dominance. It turns out she was a professor of women studies. I remember wondering how, in a normal world, a person who is so clearly maladjusted and generally fucked in the head gets a job as a college professor. Then I remembered this is not a normal world, it is a university.

Now obviously, there is no gene that causes anyone, male or female, to dress and act like a hyper-masculin trucker. I know I would feel like an idiot dressed like that. No, it is obvious that the woman I was seeing had gone to great lengths to convey an ultra masculine persona.

I can only imagine this is some form of over compensation for something going on in her brain. And, I fail to see how any reasonable thinking person without bias could view such an individual as being in any way normal and well adjusted.

Like I said, I see men who act all hyper-masculin as being a bit off. If I make that assumption, I must assume it is more so the case when a woman does it.

So this is what was on your mind when you woke up this Sunday morning? Did your wife stay out all night with a gay black biker?

I have yet to see you make a single intelligent comment. Do you care to address anything I said or are snide remarks all you can muster?

Well since you mentioned people that wear costumes are compensating for some 'immoral' upbringing, do these suit ya better?

you're the most judgmental fuck ever. big deal is someone dresses different than you. who cares about being seen as normal in the eyes of rick white. That's regression not progression of culture. If you want everyone to look the same go to jail or join a football team both might be homoerotic enough for ricks likes. If you're not naked you're wearing a costume buddy. maybe everyone could paint their house the same color too while they're at it.

word, wordz

i love you avatar too btw
"thats racist!"

In the 60's I decided to become a hippie non-conformist. Long hair, beads, bell bottoms. Of course all I managed to do was make myself look exactly like 10 million other "hippie non-conformists".
The costumes people wear are more a function of conforming to the particular cultural group a person would like to be accepted in than a sign of abnormality.
I'm not in a position, nor do I want, to know what "normal" is.
I don't even think there is a "normal".

Classic - I love Dave Chapelle. Someone once said "humor is honesty we don't ordinarily share."

His point about the whore's uniform is a good one too. Today I see 13 year old girls dressed that way. Evidently, their Progressive parents see "nothing wrong with it" as the cliché goes. Never mind the fact that people will assume she is a whore.

What ever happened to the days where one's dress was an issue of pride and respect, not only for one's self but for society. I still believe that the way one dresses says something about a person.

And, responsible adults raise children with these beliefs because such beliefs are part of what will determine a person's success like it or not.

Don't believe me, go to a job interview dressed like a shlub and see if you get hired.

I look at it a bit differently ... as though the majority of people wear "masks" in order to cover up who they really are. One needn't wear a costume as there are a whole variety of "masks" one could wear. As examples, the jock wears the mask of the athlete, the professor wears the mask of the intellectual, the cop wears the mask of the authoritarian figure and the biker, as depicted in the earlier post, wears the mask of the bad-ass. Most of us wear one kind of mask, at one time or another. The goal should be for us all to remove the masks that we are depentent upon and just become brothers and sisters with nothing to hide from each other.

True, we all have our own persona that we present to the world. I'm talking about people who go overboard with it. In my mind, a guy who fully identifies with being something anit-social like an outlaw biker or a gangsta is a disturbed individual.

After all, we should all be able to go to a nice restaurant, a funeral, a wedding or a job interview and be able to dress appropriately. We should also be able to fit into society without sticking out like a sore thumb and looking disturbed.

But let's look at another aspect. What is going on in the mind of a woman who finds it necessary to look and act not just like a man, but like a hyper-masculine trucker? Is this genetic? Obviously, a woman who does this it making an effort to portray herself as such and there has to be a reason for doing so.

Even affluent young men generally don't act like truckers. That is usually the result of growing up in a poor working class environment, probably rich with violence and other less civilized conduct. I can only imagine there must be some pretty radical stuff going on when a woman chooses this image.

Why sould anyone bother? It is common knowledge that whenever there is a new post by RickWhite it is bound to have a long, rambling puesdo intellectual anti-gay message.

Fuck this bullshit. Everyone who dresses differently than you is maladjusted? You CAN NOT be a weed smoker. You're too much of a hater and you completely lath empathy or compassion. Who the hell would want to live in a 1984 world where everyone dresses and thinks alike? Borrrrring. ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I love all those avaunt gards AND weirdos out there pushing the limits of boring popular culture and boring popular music.

Now, I fully understand uninspired posers are out there pretending. But the movement they are clinging to is real and they can be spotted.

Let's revel in our differences! No one is arranging your marriage to any of those are they?

So basically what you're saying is Saudi Arabia is your idea of the perfect society. Everything I've ever seen you say is synonymous with their culture.

What do you consider "normal" dress attire for people in our society today and how did you decide this?

Why do you assume people's childhoods who don't conform to what you consider "normal" were "probably rich with violence and other less civilized conduct"?

its not what you wear or put on the outside its what you have on the inside. i find people who have to have a bunch of piercings or tattoos to be rather shallow people. they are trying to make up on the outside what they are lacking on the inside. they are followers not leaders for the most part. they have the mentality of sheep.if one person does it ..oh thats sooo cool i think ill get a tattoo on my face and forehead. ( seen people with them on their face and forehead) branded RETARD.
if you want a tat on your forehead go ahead..but i and millions of others will think you are a dumb ass. almost no one will ever hire you for a decent job.
the whole thought of people being that damn ignorant and breathing our air..and worse yet BREEDING OTHER IDIOTS. we get to pay for with out tax money..
i think thats alot of what has happened to our country..we have been paying idiots to reproduce for decades now and they now out number the smart in this country and are dragging us down to their level.
