Both are energy storage mediums.

It actually doesn't make sense to back one energy storage medium with another. Why would a crypto need weed?

In POW mining you spend energy to find blocks, in weed growing you spend energy to create flowers. The digital storage of crypto is superior to the analog storage of cannabis. Cannabis deteriorating nature makes it a much less desirable commodity to store over a digital asset like bitcoin.

The crypto world cracks me up.

I remember years ago there were a bunch of cannabis cryptocurrencies all claiming that they were going to be the currency used at dispensaries and cannabis related transactions.

I'm pretty sure the blockchains are still running with a few people mining them.
