cure and smell

wanting to get some possibilities/feedback on my situation

When I crack open my jar you are overwhelmed with skunk. It'll quickly be noticeable at 10 ft in the house. That's great, but when I put a bud up to my nose it smells like nothing... No real smell, NO grass or hay smell just a neutral smell of nothing.

When I jar my buds, they've taken on average 7-8 days to dry, when jarred they hold a stable 59-62 RH in the jar. Even with a 5 week cure, the skunk is a little sweeter, but the actual bud is still odorless. I cant figure it out.

Something I did notice....i saw a little popcorn nug I dropped in my garage...DRYYYY. Bone dr, it had...imo....a decent smell on it. One thing that I was wondering was maybe 59% is still too wet of a bud maybe?

I don't understand how I can have a smell, but not have a smell.

Any input appreciated

well i'm sure it's not the jar that smells man. When the jar is closed the smell coming out may be more concentrated. but your flowers are definatley the cause of the smell. You might have just gotten used to the smell so it's not as apparent to you. let a friend smell it and give you an opinion.

thanks for the post, just some additional info

I run two diff phenos of the same strain, and they smell identical which is what makes me assume its something im doing, this was my 3rd harvest using same 2 phenos and the smell has been the same on all 3 harvests (I've used the same drying/curing methods)

I thought it was just me being use to the smell but I get the same feedback from buddies. What sucks is, I can have like 5 grams in a ziplock in my coat pocket and you'll smell it as soon as I walk up, but then you put it to your nose and nothings there.

put a bud in your grinder and then give it a wiff. or just take a bud and break it in half and then smell the goodness.

when you handle the buds in bags in your pocket, you are crushing them releasing the odor.

The problem sounds like two things to me.

1. Strain, guaranteed if you had some of the stinky stuff ive grown you would have noticed the stank.
2. Concentrating on detecting the smell too hard. Put a bag in you sleeve and forget about it for half an hour whilst you go about your chores. At some point your arm will pass your nose and suddenly you'll be reminded you've got a baggie there. Since thats where I stash my stuff when on road it happens to me all the time.

thought i'd follow up with what i did last night.

I got home from work, sat out a bud that had been curing for 3 weeks to let it dry a bit more. This morning it was DRY dry.. BUT it did have the skunk smell actually on the bud, i'm going to try to rehydrate the bud now and see if it holds the smell on the bud

I know that sounds borderline retarded, "hold the smell on the bud", but surely someone has experienced what I am and will know what I mean lol
