cured bud no smell

dried them till the stems snapped, trimmed and then threw in a jar burped and everything and for some reason they never aquired their outside dank smell but when you break up the nugs they leave a really nice smell on your fingers. somethinf i did wrong?? i dried over a period of 6 days and the roomps were about 60 degree room temp with a rh of about 50% have a fresh batch hanging so id really not like to repeat that again. my latest batch smells exactly like fruit loops and has been drying for about 4days so far ive seen good videos on curing but id like someone personal verified method i really want that aroma to be present plzzzz help

Have you trimmed already? I trim fan leaves, then wait for the sugar leaves to dry good. When you lightly squeeze them, you should still feel the softer buds under the crispy sugar leaves. The stems will almost crack but more of a sharp bend. I'll cut all buds into a 3.5 gallon tote & put the lid on. Each day I'll stir the buds with my hand, feeling how much moisture is still there. I'll leave top off, if too much or replace the top till the next day. After buds are where i want them, I'll jar them. I can feel the moisture, in a tote, better than in a jar. This is a non-professional practice but thats what works for me. Curing is a art. You will need moisture to cure!

rosenthal, cervantes describes perfect drying conditions, nothing to do with jars.

I cut buds from stems, dry in a controlled drying tent, 10 days or so stems snap, oh goodie, I sample now.
another week or so and buds are spongy and ready. nary a jar, never mold, no smell losses ever. once your space is controlled
your results will be consistent.

sealing fermenting marijuana in a jar is ill unless making wine, and even that has an air lock.

If I dont overfeed my growing tobacco I dont need to ferment it for a smooth milky inhale.
but when I push it with nutes, for more cabbage weight, the dried leaf is yucky, unless fermented before dried.

To my understanding it is probably too late for curing, if stem snaps. Depends how you define snapping. It shouldn't crack. Buds should be crispy on the outer surface, but little bit soft (moist) inside, which you could sense by pushing your finger in it.

As I understand, long dry is best to get a good smell - should aim for about 10 days for best results. Some go even up to 14 days. Proper drying has a bigger effect on the smell than curing does. Good cure is just a bonus.

To keep in mind though, that it's probably more safe to dry quicker, because at certain point it could take too long which could attract mold. Got to know what you're doing when going for such a long drying. At first it may seem like they aren't drying at all.. for first few days.

I can't recommend any RH or temp. Still learning myself.

Last time I dried at 60F and 55%, but it still happened too quickly - in a week. Air circulation is also a factor, which might have been too intense.

Three things - RH, temp and air circulation. Got to find the right balance.

Would be interesting to see what others recommend.

i jar before stem snaps. it might make a crunch sound, but it doesnt "snap". im not the most experienced but i had problems drying until stem snapped just like you are describing. maybe i was missing something. jarring before the stems snap it retains that dank smell, especially when you break a nug open. i just cut the plant and hang it whole (minus the roots lol) or if its a large plant ill just take the branches but i leave all the leaf on, including the fan leafs. they have a lot of moisture and will slow down the dry process, i can shoot for 8-10 days usually until the stems start to become brittle and get the crunch sound when you bend them but not quite snapping at that point.

i dont really have a controlled environment to dry in though, i just hang in my closet and let nature take its course while opening the door every so often to get circulation in. hasnt really failed me yet...

this winter though recently been a very dry this year, my hygrometer where i store my jars (which is in a drawer next to my closet) is reading 33% and 70f. i took a small tester off one of my plants last week and it was dry enough for the jar in 3-4 days lol. its been about 5 days in the jar now and it still has smell to it but only just lol.

Long and slow is best otherwize you fall foul of this

Typical of me to dry over 14-21 days at 70f/22c?

if drying too quick I hand a damp towel or wet jeans to lower humidity

tho slow you gotta watch out for molds

ps/ growing in the 'right' soil allows the terpine smells to ejaculate later in cure

thanks for all the input, you guys are the shit, this fresh harvest just dried up nicely. gonna start my cure i have a feeling like this is gonna be my best batch yet! manicured em to my liking and they smelll sooooooooo good, opening the jar makes my nostrils burn they smell like a fruity gasoline smell. waited till the stems bent with a slight crunch. only problem i have with this batch is that i dont have more of it if this loses its stink im gonna lose my mind! will keep yall posted

Most likely too dry in the jars....So overall too dry to cure.

To actually cure. The plant matter being cured can not go below like 52 to 54 % Rh. If it drops to 52 or below, it for sure will stop curing.

Use Bovida packs at 58 or 64 % in jars.

Large packs in buckets with Gamma seal lids work for bulk curing...

It is possible to restart a cure by increasing the moisture content back up to 58% +.

Slower drying is better but stopping at a stem cracking but not snapping in half is best. Put the Bovida directly into the jar as you fill the jar.
The Bovida will absorb any extra moisture the buds may have and control the RH for curing, much past the actual cure is complete.
58% RH material is perfect for smoking. Better draw, better smoke temp, smoother hit, and better/cleaner buzz.

John Wishmyer, those are some beautiful buds you got there!

You dried them out too much.

For curing, you need a little bit of moisture. That's the entire reason you burp them - to release the humidity as the buds cure so they don't mold.

I've never dried for more than 3 or 4 days. You want the stem to still bend a bit before it breaks. If it's so damn dry it snaps instantly, it's too dry and you've pretty much ruined any chance at curing.

Fuck that, dry for longer then place in jar when properly dry.

Wtf its for storage not some chemical reaction, the cure was from age not the jar, the jar was to stop bud picking up extra moisture.

Do they smell like hay? From what I have learned if they smell like hay it has chlorophyll left in them. If you dry to fast the chlorophyll doesn't have time to leave the buds and gets trapped in them. That is why most people dry slowly. If chlorophyll gets stuck in the buds they will smell like hay for a lot longer and may never smell like true bud. I wet trimmed and dried mine too fast as well, 4 days. They took extra time to cure before the true bud smell came out, but always had a very faint smell of hay. I am going to try and slow down the dry time this grow and leave the sugar leaves on. I have read this by a few master growers online, but everyone has their way of drying. They could be completely wrong, but it is worth a shot, they know a lot more than me.

Why you gotta be bringin Antone in to this

I never cure bud. I dry it and put it in jars when it's dry. Opening a jar will smell up the room. The reason I don't cure is because I don't have the time to be burping jars and worrying about humidity. I've cured in the past but after losing about ten ounces to mold I stopped that practice. It was my fault but I don't want to repeat that again. Maybe the weed is slightly better if cured properly but I'm very satisfied by just drying slowly and skipping the cure. People always tell me my weed is some of the smelliest and tastiest they have ever had.

most recent grow, bud smelled beautiful sweet, fruity, and sourish. i hung the whole plant this time except fan leaves with no trichomes on em. have been drying for about a week now. most of my buds are cripsy to the touch stems are slightly flexy while smaller ones snap on pressure. going to trim and jar hoping that they retain their smell. As tyke did say at this point after a couple grows under the belt smell really isnt everything last batch didnt retain anything but definately was some potent medicine, which to some is the end goal i suppose.

Strain dependant, but 60 f, 60 rh is ideal.
2 weeks to a month.

If its in the jars ,and you leaving them closed .Its dry you Kinda curing any how ,because you have to open the jars to get the smoke you doing out the jar .Same has me really i just jar it up last thing i want is major smell in a country where it illegal.I make my oil on the farm we work with,Nearest house is around 4 mile away
