okay, my first harvest had no smell after cutting/drying/cure

my second actually smelled pretty dank after it dried, could smell a gram through a baggie through my coat. I am currently curing that, its been curing about a week/week and a half and man i swear it seems the smell is getting weaker every time i open the jar for 15 minutes

is this common?

My biggest problem losing smell when I first started is that I was not letting them finish... I would be choppng those things too early and then they would lose smell... also some of the genetics don't smell much... I hade a Diablo OG that smelled like coffee when cured... No one wanted it but it was really nice stuff.... Also I was not hanging them long enough, depending on the humidity I hang them for 5 to 7 days, or until the buds feel dry and them stem has a Snap but still bends a tad....

I kind of agree with you because I guarantee if dude took his trees put them in a baggie and put inside his car for an hour he would open his car door and it would reek of chronic!

sorry for the delayed response.

I am opening daily for 15 minutes. They reeked after a 7 day dry. It may be in my head, my old lady says its overwhelming but honestly it doesnt smell as stout as it did when i stuck it in the jar (to me).

^^ once you walk into a port-a-potty for the first time.. its unbearable
if you keep walking into it.. it becomes less repulsive. It doesnt mean that the shit in the port-a-potty reduced in smell.. it just means that you got used to the stench

How long did you dry your weed for?
What were the RH levels? Both for the room and the curing jars if you have the numbers.

It sounds like you've burped the jars too little.
I dry my weed for ~6 days and then I jar the buds, after the initial jaring I burp the jars quite often.
I have hygrometers in a jar a time to check the RH levels, and depending on those I sometimes get the bud out to dry again, leave the jar open for a while (up to an hour) or burp the jars 2-3 times a day.
This is done for the first couple of days, then I switch to burping 2 times a day, then 7 days in I burp once a day, and I continue this for as long as possible, all the while checking RH levels.

I have some in 3rd week of cure which are just about reaching 55% RH (and thus close to stopping the burping).
