Curing Humidity in Jars

So i went out and bought a few little hygrometers for my curing jars. There reading about 70% whenever I take them out to burp. I was just wondering if anyone knew the prime RH to quit burping and put them away. I feel like I've read/heard somehwhere it's about 45%.

I know there is a link somewhere where someone has them broken down but I cannot locate it.

If you leave it above 55 and closer to 60 they will continue to cure.....below 55 and it stops.. at 70% you better watch for mold

what has happened if my bud is not moldy, and has not fully dried and i attempt to cure, and it smells weird?? like not grassy, or even a fresh plant smell, just weird. and i have smelt this before, and i now i know what i was getting. say i jarred it a little too early, can i just simply re-hang it after a few days of being jarred. i have a strange feeling that by taking the buds out of the jar twice a day to cure, was the the wrong move. im starting to get bummed that i might have messed up a few jars, maybe more then a few. i had only 1 hygrometer and 14 jars. i just purchased 3 more, but i need i feel i need at least 12.

oh, one more thing...

the original post never mentions jar size. does that matter at all? i was told to just never fill more the 3/4. i like to keep them at about half way, and try to keep big long colas with big long colas and medium size buds with medium size buds, and small nugs, well all my small nugs i have another jar for. i let those sit on a tray til they dry then i toss them in the huge jar of little buds. and so far that jar is curing the best. i think. i think i have it down, just little unsecured about it.

The jar size doesn't matter. I would really suggest that you read the original thread on IC. It will answer all of your questions and perhaps introduce other concepts that you haven't considered. Good luck.

I went to the reptile store and bought a few cheap hygrometers (lil round ones) I dunno if i trust how accurate these are. My buds are crispy on the outside don't feel real damp yet the guages read 80+ So do I leave em out and risk them drying fast or go with gut.

Those hygrometers are very inaccurate and inconsistent. I wouldn't rely on them at all. I'd strongly suggest a Caliber III so that you can be sure of your readings. Good luck.

Yea I calibrated them last night as well as one of my electronic ones. I did the salt in a cap with a couple drops of water... My analogs were within 5% (adjusted accordingly) and my electronic was 16%off. could be cause it's been left out in the rain as well as being soaked in my mushroom terrarium.

Thanks for all the help SimonD and everyone else.
and I will be ordering caliberIII's
