Cut, dried and started cure now it stinks?

So I took a cola from each of my plants about a week early. Trimmed and manicured them pretty tight and hung them from fishing line in my closet that is directly across from my thermostat. We keep the air on 72 so it's got to be pretty close to that temperature in my closet. Every 12 hours for 4 days I opened the door a few times to let fresh air in. After 4 days they buds all felt 95% dry so I cut them from the stalks and mason jarred them. 12 hours I opened the jars and all my buds smell nothing like they did on my plant and stink bad. Not like stinky sticky goody pot stink, like something wrong bad. They also seem to moisten up pretty good which I thought was normal. I took all the buds out and have air dried them in a rack in the closet for a few days. They are all dry again but still stink bad. Is it mold? Is it normal? I assume they should smell more like they did on the plant but don't. Any suggestions? It still gets me super high but if it's going to smell this way, I might just trash it all which will really upset me.

Well all 4 of them smell different so I wouldn't say ammonia smelling. Maybe? If there is any mold there would be something visually I would see right?

Not necessarily, depends how far along it is. Mold starts on the inside of the bud typically. So by the time you see it on the outside most of the bud will have been consumed by it.

I am right by saying my buds should smell similar to how they do on the plant right? Like when I squeeze a bud on my plant then the smell on your fingers. That smell?

This is exactly why I wanted to test this before hand as I don't want to mess up my whole crop. How long should I be drying these before they go into jars? 4 days should be good yes? They felt dry enough after 4

Yeah they should smell similar to what they smell like on the plant. You should dry them until the stems snap when you bend them. How many days will depend on the temps and humidity of your drying area. But yeah 4-6 days is pretty average.

smells like wet hay or lawn trimmings or something like that? it is a common part of curing and involves chlorophyl escaping if so. they will lose that smell and start replacing it with that good old ganja smell as the curing continues.

I'm going to give it time. I think I did jar them a day or so early but no mold anywhere to be seen. Im gonna let them dry in my rack another night then jar. Even after last night the bad smell is almost gone after leaving them out of the jars.
