you must have misunderstood me. I was talking about a loss of efficiency as the amperage rises. of course the overall light output rises as amperage rises, but the LED gets hotter and looses efficiency.
I edited crees data a bit. have a look. and compare 1000mA and 2000ma and consider that you can drive the led at about 35°C at 1A while 2A would heat it up to about 55°C(estimated guess from experience).
What does 89w at full power seriously matter to you? Probably less than 89w if you are running less than 2.15 amps. That was what I was trying to impress upon you. Yes, efficiency for the power goes down, but for 89w per emitter, what does it even matter? You still get greater power.

And 55°C? You must be working with some kind of Chinese chip. The heat is completely negligible. Especially with a proper heat sink, fan, and some acceptable binding between the chip and the sink. My chip never gets near the 50s, 40, and likely not even much into the 30s. In fact, I still need to figure out a way to heat that room. It's even a little too cool as we speak.

Another newb question: if i have a 1400ma driver then dim it down with a dimmer of some sort, to say 50% am i now running the cobs at 700ma? An example would be the mau5 8 cob kit. Im thinking of going the route for a 2 x 2.5 gorrila tent. If dimmed down to 50% shouldnt be too much light for this tent and then in future if I get the space for a larger tent i can reconfigure the lights for a larger tent and run at 1400ma.
Sound feasable?

simple swivel bracket will allow Cutter sink to attach directly to an 80/20 extrusion with standard hardware. Allows ~45 degrees of directional adjustment for those that want to angle their cobs. or slide them down the 80/20 track.

Out of 0.063 thick 6061 aluminum and designed to get the maximum amount of parts out of a sheet. I am taking a class next week to learn how to operate an abrasive water jet machine. apparently its the fastest cheapest way to cut parts out of aluminum sheet. I don't want to over promise under-deliver, But I will attempt to cut hundreds of these brackets if you guys like them, and if the geometry works out in real life.

Did anyone every make these brackets up to sell? I would be interested. If i had the means i would make myself but i do not.
Amazing idea btw, and thanks growmau5 fantastic thread and all your vids. Its got me hooked on cob led and i havent even started yet . Very soon though, gonna pull the trigger at cutter this week if all goes to plan. Ive just bought a hurricanex led controller from steves led so ill need some lights to play with it!

I'm not sure if it drops the voltage or the current, someone else could tell you that, but it will drop the wattage if you dial it down, so yes it is feasible, but not sure what the efficiency would be....
You could just as well use half the cobs and leave them at 1400mA

Yeah maybe i should save myself some cash and complexity for my indoor first grow. The tent is tiny anyways. Cheers.

Sorry, another question if you dont mind, if i went for 4 cobs in a small tent 2*2.5 , would a square config of cobs or a line of four cobs be better spread?

my gojis don't like 3500k cree cobs for some reason even in veg with stable nutes they never look happy happy joy joy
Final herb was okay plants just weren't happy they look realllllly stressed out
damn sad to hear. anyone else had any issues with some strains and cobs?
