Cutting fan leaves...... Ok?

okay, so I want to trim some fan leaves from my plants, because it is blocking light to the lower branches. I have a few leaves that are 8in long and 7in wide. So my question is how many can I cut that would hurt or shock the plant from growing? Or if it is an okay practice to cut a large fan leaves off without affecting the plants means of gathering light.

Thanks

yeah thats fine even though people on here will give you shit about it just dont get too carried away, or depending on how much or how little light your using it may be a better option altogather to chop off all the lowwer branches and leave the shit on the top closest to the light

What about just trimming the fan leaves back a bit so light can get past, but the leaf (after healing from the cut) can still do photosynthesis?

I pruned my lower branches due to circulation problems. next grow, I am looking to get some side light on them since I have the space to grow the lower portions of the plants..

I am one of those guys who give you shit about and anyone who gives out bad advice too.... But Smoking Baby and I have a, umm understanding.

Leave leaves alone! Removal of healthy leave hacks up a healthy plant. Removing large or shade leaves DOES NOT make plants more productive. This practice DOES NOT supply more light to smaller leaves and growing tips. Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses the plant, and stunts its growth. Stress is a growth inhibitor. Remove only dead leaves or leaves that are more than 50 perfect damages.

Don't ever remove fan leaves before harvest for several reasons.

1. The fan leaves convert and store more energy for the plant than any other leaf. The more energy the plant generates the healthier the buds that is just millions of years of genetics at work.

2. Even if the fan leaves are yellowing in late bloom I do not remove them until they are almost ready to fall off. The yellowing in the fan leaves at late harvest is the plants metabolism at work. She is transferring all stored energy in the fan leaf to bud production. It is the easiest source of energy she has late in life. Once again millions of years of genetics can't be wrong or we wouldn't have weeds to grow now.

please dont cut any leaves. buds dont grow buds, leaves grow buds. those buds could hide under those leaves thier whole life and be just fine. artificial light loses potency the further from the source you are. those lower buds are further from the light i assume so your better off letting larger, closer, more efficient fan leaves collect that light.

Look man/lady just leaf them alone and let them grow. When it goes into 12/12 it will need every leaf available to feed the buds, and also the buds will strech high and above the leafs in time. What I do is get 4 bamboo sticks (wal mart, nursery, ect) and sink them in the corners then pull a branch out to each corner and tie them to sticks useing garden tie (stuff from grocery store in produce for tieing bags). That way you open up middle.

lol the lowwer growth your trying to save will start to get yellow and die off if it doesnt get the right amount of light. but the point can be made that those waaay lowwer branches wont produce shit but fluffy popcorn bud anyway. that is true. but your asking if you can remove the upper growth or just a few fan leaves to let some light to that poorly lit bud site to help it live then yes that will work to. bottom line theres no one right way to grow weed, and i didnt have to read the cannabible or dick ride jorge cervantes, that ugly contradictive fucker!!!! i just did research for years on websites just like this and put shit togather. golden ganja i dont give out bad advice if so were? and im glad you changed that last ugly ass avitar you had. lmao

we do have an understanding though

Want me too go behind you on some of your previous post and Highlight all the bad advice you have been giving? I mean since you do not understand the chemistry of a marijuana plant and how it lives and what it takes, etc, etc ,etc.
Sure you can half kill a plant and it will still survive, but is that good growing or poor growing.
Taking off fan leafs is poor advice. :spew:

Look through my albums and see how Beautiful my ladies are. I tell you what it's a wonderful feeling to let them do there own thing. If a leaf wants off the plant, it will die and drop off. Or you can pluck it once its 51% dead, lol.

I hear what you are saying, this is good information.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried cutting tiny budding branches off the bottom in attempt to direct efforts to the top buds? And if so, is there enough effect to make this worth-while?

i get along with chitownsmoking but i have to agree with goldenganj on this one. chitown is spot on about cutting off thos unergrowth tips though, i always do this unless i want to make hash or oil with the fluff buds.

I've been trimming fan leaves for a long time and have never seen it be a problem. I also snap the spent buds off of my roses, trim my oak trees back with a pruning saw, and (gasp!) I occasionally take a pair of shears to my hedges. It's called cultivation.
