Daily maintenance of your pH meter!

I'm a hydro grower and I keep replacing pH meters. Can someone let me know what kind of solution you keep your hand held pH meters and pins in, to keep them from drying out, on a daily basis? The solution I see for sale is pretty pricey and I read somewhere NOT to store it in the calibration solution, which I have been doing...

Do I need to used the packaged/bottled pH storage solution or is something else okay? Suggestions please.

Nonsense. 7.0 calibration solution is fine for storage and quarts of it from GH say so on the bottle. I fill a shot glass with it and keep the meter, with the cap on, stnding upright in the glass.

I was hoping so. I have some of the pH 7.01 packets. I'd like to know how far into the solution do you keep it and do you remember how much a qt. goes for? I know I have screwed up 2 meters, so far, my keeping them in ro'd water. Live and learn and sometimes the learning is costly.

I think a quart is like 10-15 dollars. I keep mine so the cap is submerged.

Let me clarify - when I say I never read that stuff, read rhymes with reed not read (past tense) rhymes with red. And scary is tongue in cheek. So I'm saying ignore that stuff, I've had it all over my hands it's harmless. Reading that is like reading the paperwork that comes with over the counter medications - if you read it you'll never take it. Use the 7.0 calibration solution and use it for storage and stop thinking about it.

Ah, so your info is more accurate then the information on the bottle, huh? Just because you're not concerned about the health hazard, doesnt mean I'm not. I always read the prescription information and follow it to the letter. I surely wont have my hands, etc in the solution or be sniffing it, to say the least. I think it would be very foolish for me and anyone else to disregard warning information. They ain't kidding.

How do you feel about all the warnings on marijuana use? As for warnings I once saw a drill at Lowes with a tag that said, "Do Not Turn On Drill and Insert Into Nostrils." Seriously. I complied with it too!

He's talking about the warning pertaining to the calibration solution, not pot or a drill.

Typical Fox News response. Spin away from the true topic.

How exactly did you make the connection to Fox News? No one here is insulting your political views. Who says IS is conservative anyway? Anyway, you should always read warnings on product labels for safety, but sometimes there are really stupid ones that they are required to put on there because some idiot tried it before and hurt him/herself.

And while I am conservative the allusion is stupid. If you want to believe calibration solution is dangerous, go ahead. I report, you decide! 8)

Yes, it is dangerous to mishandle it. That's what the labels say, so i believe it 100%. You didnt report anything factual. You just make up what suits you as you go along....thats not good for anyone here on RIU. When your dick falls off, maybe that will change your mind.

Now you know thst statement is total BS. I know it's hard for you to be truthful, but you might give it a try. No wonder you're not welcome on the bubble boards.

Oh...I thought we were talking about warnings that were actually on the label...
Some sort of EPA requirement probably. They are on the GH website for everyproduct they have and most of what is in it is boilerplate. Plus, it doesn't say it is dangerous to get on the skin it says "may cause mild irritation." And the stated remedy is to wash with soap and water. LOL
