Damn Hermies!!!

Son of a bitch. I thought I only had 1 hermie and 3 girls, but it turns out another one was also hermie. I was wondering how the hell my plants were getting pollinated when I was pulling off the balls!! It looks like my 2 girls are totally pollinated, the one hermie started dropping seeds today. I'm only about 35 days into flowering, will pulling the hermies now do any good?? Will the girls continue to make buds that won't be pollinated after the hermies are gone? Here's some pics...

1 of the hermies and then 2 pics of a girl, full of seeds...

If you do not eliminate a hermaphrodite as soon as you recognize it, you will be subject to seed eruptions.

Eliminate the source of pollination and the risk of accidental pollination is reduced significantly.

i dont think it would do much to pull them now if the girls are already pollinated but hey do what feels right.

I guess a better question would be... does the pollen have to touch each seed sac individually to pollenate it and produce a seed? Or once a plant has been pollinated, will it produce seeds all over, regardless of whether or not there is more pollen present? I would think it would be the former, not the latter, and in that case getting rid of the hermies would prevent any further seed formation. Someone who knows about this stuff, am I right?

they only pollinate the tracts they touch, that is why people pollinate individual branches then leave the others for bud.

You are referring to direct (usually intentional) pollination. But indirect (usually accidental) pollination occurs all the time. Pollen is tiny and very resilient, able to pollinate females as far as 20 miles away from the source. As far as 50 miles away in extreme cases.

As long as you insist on keeping a hermie in your grow room, all flowering plants in the room are in danger of pollination.

i understand that,i believe he was asking if part of the plant was pollinated would all the bud sites have seeds.not just were the pollen came in contact.

shit, i have to eliminate all males in the 50 miles radius:evil:

If you got a hermie and any pollination has occurred, then there's not much you can do at this point. I had a couple of hermie-infested crops a couple of years ago. I ended up letting them flower to fruition, just so I at least had some hermie buds to smoke. (It was terrible.)

After the crop was done, I took some water, added a bit of bleach to it, and wiped down, well, pretty much everything (bleach kills the pollen). Had no probs with future crops, and haven't had a hermie since either. But man, that was like 4 or 5 months wasted with the hermie crops, that really sucked ass.

I do still have about 5000 seeds from the hermies. When I go to the zoo, I bring a little baggie of them and throw them around, and plant them in stealthy spots around the zoo. I planted one near the ape hangout behind a couple of shrubs, which got pretty big (about 3 feet tall) before the groundskeepers found it and hacked it down. Heh.
