Day 30 of first grow, looking for opinions!

Day 30, started from seed. just looking for opinions on when i should switch to flower, and possibly any other training techniques, and overall the health of the plant. they are about 11" tall, with very tight node spacing.

I tried FIM'ing about 2 weeks ago, but growth stayed the same. So i decided to top 3 days ago and plants are starting to recover, also removed a lot of the fan leaves as they were looking quite rough, as you can see on the back plant there are a few fan leaves that have curled up

4x4 grow tent
600w hps
rh 35-40
temps between 26-28c
24-0 light cycle

strains are
CBD Blue shark (left, and back)
White Widow (right)

Any tips would be much appreaciated! thanks

Hey buddy, glad you came on here to seek other opinions. So here’s mine. Your plants will thank you sooooo much if you just raise your light. Like another 2 feet. That’s why the leaves are curled and deformed around the edges and that’s why they aren’t very big yet. That’s way too much light for young plants like that. They have no light footprint to grow into. By raising the light, you’re allowing the plant to seek out that further away light. Allowing it to grow taller and overall healthier. Not to mention the heat from the lamp being that close is why they look so stressed. That’s heat and light stress right there. Just raise your light and maybe get an extra fan in there and you’ll be good to go

I agree that it is heat from your lamp.
My opinion is raise your light 6 inches. The heat stress is only on a few leaves, so you are just a little too close.
Problem should go away, but those leaves won't. They'll dry up and you can pick them off and it'll look awesome again.

Edit: Is that an open air wing hood? Do you have a fan in there blowing on the plants at all?

the heat stress was on all the fan leaves, i removed almost all the fan leaves prior to topping.

Yeah 30” should be perfect. Definitely raise it more than 6 inches like that other guy said. 6 inches still is way too close. But if you did 30 ur good. Your plants will grow right up into it perfectly.

And as far as flower, you flower them basically when you want to. The longer you veg for, the bigger your plant.

I'm thinking it looks like mites more than a light issue.
Anyone else think it could be Russet or Broad mites?

Like another 2 feet.
I guess I got confused. I thought you were telling him to raise it 2 MORE feet.

Then he raised it to a total height of 2.5 feet, which is not 2 more feet. (unless he was 6 inches off the plant to start.)

Then you agree that 30 inches is perfect.
So how much was the light raised?
My opinion is raise your light 6 inches.
My recommendation was 6 inches higher, not a height of 6 inches.

I raised the light to 24 inches, and decided to do some LST, and will be doing a ScrOG grow. Little late in the game to decide that lol but better late then never. Net will sit above the soil by 10-12”, seems low but I’ve read people have put up ScrOG nets that low, but have also seen them up as high as 3’

Forgive my editing but this is right on. Feed cal mag. Read the post in Newbies as to why with stresses like these.

24 inches is too far away. Get yourself an air cooled hood and get that light closer. I'm in a 4 x 4 tent with a 600 watt HPS. My light is 18 inches away. I'd have it closer but with the tent full it needs to be that far away for coverage. You're not getting quite a bit of the light intensity you can have.

For perspective, that's a six in fan blowing between the light fixture and top of the plants.

I get some foxtailing occasionally depending on strain. This is a hybrid cross I made from Panama and Pakistani Chitral Kush. A little foxtailing doesn't bother me. Plus the sativa from the Panama contributes as well. This is the only one that foxtailed out of numerous plants so I don't think it's because the light is too close.

Damn man good lookin plants! whats your usual yield with that setup? im hoping to get 10oz off this grow!
It depends on what I'm growing. If I grow the same strain for a high yield run I can get a pound. Lately I've been working on a breeding project so I'm flowering sooner to keep the plants smaller and get through the grow faster. Plus it's colder and I had to put a heater in the tent and that takes up space. So yield is going to be much lower but I don't care. I'm working on a project and pollinated half the plants so they will also be full of seeds that I want. These will be F2's.

But if you can get that light closer you'll get denser buds and more weight. You're 4 x 4 and 600 watt can produce more weed than you'll need. My friends are always happy when they come over and end up leaving with a nice bag of solid, high quality bud. It's a perfect setup for a hobbyist grower to play around with and never have to worry about having weed to smoke.

Good luck.
