hello all. i recently bought a very expensive stand alone AC to cool my grow room. it worked fine for the first 3 weeks, but now it is starting to break, and its obviously defective. the manufactures warranty says if a product is defective, then they will fix it for free, but that i have to pay for shipping and handling to get it to them!!! what a bunch of bullshit! thats 100 dollars easily...i shouldnt have to pay extra money to get something to work the way its supposed to! are there any rights i have that protect me from something like this? i just want to get it fixed without paying any money out of pocket...so is there a "lemon law" of sorts or something? im in cali btw...thanks guys...

I went through something like that when my pioneer turntable stopped working..they wanted me to ship it to Ontario to their main place...I called customer service and told them that if they wouldn't find a store that repairs their brand near me I'd never buy their products again and I'll contact the local media consumer advocate..... they found a place in a week.. If they expect you to box up and ship an AC unit they must be fucking insane... If they insist, get a confirmation of shipping payment & insurance from them in writing 1st...

Just box it back up and take it to Walmart, they'll take back anything. Just say you bought it at a Walmart somewhere out of state and you lost your receipt.
They'll probably give you a hard time, Don't cave; keep saying you bought it there and you want your money back. Eventually they'll cave and end up exchanging it for you or giving you a store credit.

Also, make sure you go to a Walmart that is in a good neighborhood. The Walmart's in good neighborhoods usually live by the rule "The customer is always right".

that may be true on inexpensive products, but on things like an AC, i don't think you will get much leniency on that. but go ahead and try, you may get store credit, which would get you a new ac and still have probably 95% of the money left over from the first one with wal mart's prices.

You should just try to return it to the store you got it from... I was gonna suggest that next... Doesn't have to be Walmart... Then just get a different AC somewhere else cuz obviously this one isn't good quality..

I'd see if they'd settle on this, I mean hell plenty of A/C repair places around..

Save them and you money overall, cause shipping those beast can cost more then what you paid for it.

There's one other thing you can do.
Go to Home Depot or someplace that might still have AC's on their shelves.
Buy one, take it home. Make sure you don't mess up the box when taking out the new one.
Then take your old one put it in the box and take it back to Home Depot.
You'll have your recepit and they'll give you your money back.
Voila.....New air conditioner. :bigjoint:

I've done this a time or two.
The last time I did it, was when I accidently spilled my beer inside the T.V. :-P
I also did it when Home Depot first opened. They had a different return policy back then.
I bought a riding lawn mower. I used it for the entire summer, just shy of 90 days. Then I took it back and got my money back.

I don't do that stuff anymore, my lady friend that I'm with now keeps me in line. :-P
