Throughout our country's history, the vote has been expanded to include more citizens. This is the first time that trend is being reversed. It's a sad time for Americans.

What are the teabaggers afraid of?

(Answer- democracy.)
You would be afraid of democracy too if you knew any history.

IDs were required to vote in democratic primaries, IDs were required to ATTEND the democratic primary. Keep telling us you are just fighting for people's rights, it seems really genuine and consistent.

It is very clear that ALEC driven republican enacted voter ID laws were intended specificly to suppress the vote. Only someone who is either purposefuly ignorant of the goings on in the various Republican run states or has a political agenda could claim otherwise.

How does it suppress the vote? Anyone in America can go get a government issued ID. In my state if it is for voting purposes, it is completely free of charge. I believe it is that way in several states.

How about this? We have voter ID... BUT... we also make it very easy for every citizen of this country to get... regardless of social or political status. The republican plan is just to enact voter Id... with no plan or care of how to get IDs to the poor. That's wrong.

Also... I haven't had an ID in like 7 years. honestly. and I'm not even on welfare or anything. and... I'm white. crazy huh?

Althor.

Even if the ID is free, the supporting documents are not, the transportation is not, the loss of work in order to obtain the documents is not. There is a state where a person's permit to carry is considered valid ID but Military ID is not. What I have been seeing is that well meaning conservatives do not understand the crux of the issue and are simply being led without knowing the particulars.

A number of studies have indicated that requiring voter ID, and especially having enacted those laws with scant time provided to comply will suppress voters. If you are truely interested rather than simply attempting to argue the theoretical I will be happy to explain it to you.

That's hilarious... What a stupid Liberal C*nt

"Rosen, 57, a Cockeysville businesswoman and Maryland voter, told The Baltimore Sun that she registered to vote in Florida several years ago in order to support a "very close friend" running for the St. Petersburg City Council and to vote on local issues there.

Rosen said she was able to register in Florida because she owned property there.

Under Maryland law, a voter here may not maintain registration in a second state if it allows the voter to participate in state or federal elections there, according to Jared DeMarinis, director of candidacy and campaign finance at the State Board of Elections."

How do these people (who cant get IDs) work? Every job I have ever had they asked for birth certificate, social security card, and or drivers license? How do they cash checks? If they dont have a bank account (which they need ID for) they have to have ID to cash the check. Any way you turn it, still ends up with anyone who wants an ID can go get one. You only have to do it once. Heck, dont you need social security card, birth certificate, ID to apply and receive welfare? I am pretty sure you do. This is really a non-issue to me. The only people it hurts are those who want to cheat.

Show of hands, who here was going to vote, but now cannot or in the future will not be able to because they cannot get ID?

since when is anyone required to work? to cash a check? to have a bank account?

of course you don't care, it's the 24th amendment, and 24 does not equal 2.

Many of them are students, many live in retirement homes, many live as best they can whereever they are. I see Althor that you fall victim to the perception that everyone must surely be like you. They must be in a situation like yours and you can't seem to fathom any other way of living but your own. Realize that many who don't know the particulars believe that any ID is sufficient in any state, this is not true as I have stated. In at least one state, one can cash a check, make a deposit and qualify to purchase liquor with a military ID that is not acceptable for voting because it does not expire.

"anyone who wants Id can get one" - not necessarily. We know that perhaps as many as 5 million people in this country do not currently have the ID needed to vote. In many cases folks who have been voting for decades have been rendered incapable of voting because of the new ID laws - and in many cases they don't even know and my not find out until they arrive at their polling place.

It is a non-issue to you because you cannot comprehend that anyone is different than you Althor.

Now the fact is that there is little if any widespread voter fraud in this country.

If voter ID laws prevent the few abusers from voting but also keep hundreds of thousands of legitimate voters from casting their vote then anyone who is for such laws are patently un-American - that is, if Americans believe that anyone who can vote should be able to.

Any observation of what is happening regarding voter ID can clearly perceive that it is a strong effort to limit voting. We know that Republicans see limited voting as a way of getting their people in office.

What you seem to be supporting is preventing anyone who is not like yourself from casting a vote - why do you want to keep people from voting Althor?
