Designing no till indoor tiny grow

Dear Gentle folks,
I have been contemplating a transition from ROLS to NoTill in my minuscule 2x2 tents.

How would you NoTill gardener do?
I have a series of questions:

1-Would you use a 20 gallon pot allowing a better air circulation around the pot or use a 25 gallon pot that is stuck to the side of the tent with 20% more soil volume?
2-how many plants can grow at once in a 20 or 25 gallon pot?
3- How many time would you transplant before installing the plants in the NoTill setup and in what size containers do you use for younglings?
4-when do you transplant?
5-do you give the soil a break between 2 grows or can you go perpetual?

1. 20 gals have been working great for me so far! i have 2 that i'm just finishing up the 3rd run in. Seems to be plenty of soil volume

2. plants depends on how big you want to get them (ceiling clearance and wall space will be biggest restraints). I only do one at a time, but 2 or 3 smaller ones is not far fetched. If you look at my recent posts in my thread, you can see how big i run my plants in my 20 gals.

3. i go from cloner to a pint size contain, then to a 1 gal contain, and then to my no-till. i like to get a good root system established. you could plant right into the notill if you wanted with the smaller ones... but then you gotta wait for them to grow up. where as if you have a plant in a 1 gal already established and ready to go, you can harvest your no-till, and plant that established plant in the no-till the same day.

4. all transplants are done when roots are fully colonized throughout the medium. you can see a nice root shot in my thread's most recent post.

5. no break. harvest and plant right back in. keep the soil biology working. if i were to give it a rest, i would plant a cover crop, let it grow and then till it in.

Good luck :)

Dear ShLubY,

I thank you so much for your quick and incredibly precise answer.
Coming back to point 2, I prefer to have more plants to be sure to have at least one winner. Do you not keep the size of your plants under control? I prune, trim, fimm, top, supercrop, scrog my plants like a sadistic plant lover. They usually take the shape of a scary movie (bonsai) oak tree. Interesting structures once dried (will try to post pix if you would like).

well to answer that question simply, my pruning methods for each plant depend on their growth structure. my main goal with all plants is to have as many tops in the canopy as possible rather than just one main one (which sounds like what you're describing your methods do). and if you're growing from clones, all plants should be winners. if you're growing from seeds each time... then yeah you're gonna have more variance in your harvests rather than predictable results.

when it comes to filling out space, i literally doesnt matter if you have 4 plants or 1, you're going to get production based on cubic feet of plant in the light. i can grow 4 plants in 5 or 7 gal containers and get the same round about yield as i can with 2 plants each in a 20 gal container, so long as they are grown to the same mass size. it's all preference. bigger plants require longer veg times, and more veg space. smaller plants can be vegged and put into flower much quicker. it just depends on your preference.

Dear ShLubY,

As I have very limited space for my garden, and regardless my plant-bondage fetiche, I very much like to see several trunks, hence the microforest in my tent.
Again, ever grateful for your support.

BDSMlingly yours,
M
