I currently own a 250 watt hps looking into getting a '5 light rail and also a "6 vent fan and charlcol/silencer for smell looking into the rail so i dont run an extra cost of light would a light rail be a good investment with the light i own and considering i dont want to add another light extra monthly cost!

p.s. i grow in a closet as well!

Well, the 250w is slightly cheaper than the light rail. 250w might use $10 a month in electric, probably less since most of your grow is 12/12 (at my billing rates, of course).

Assuming you buy your equipment at retail, I really don't see the benefit of purchasing a light mover over an additional 250w. I was lucky to find my 400w digital for $159 from HID hut, they stopped selling it right after I bought mine (I like to think I got the last one, lol). But anyways, if you're looking to save a few bucks, you should look into buying some used equipment. A little DIY will save you even more (gutted window blind = free light hanger) etc.

That sounds about right.

500w running 12/12 uses 360kwh per month. About $20 a month in electric. Cops don't go knocking on doors when people use an extra $20 a month, and your electric company only reports crimes to the police. Other than that, there is absolutely no reason why the cops would even know that you're using an extra $20 a month.

Using electric is sort of like paying for your equipment with a credit card. It's something the cops collect AFTER they find out you're growing pot, they don't actually sit there and monitor everybody's electric no more than they pour over every single person's credit card statement. But they will collect that info if your friend who saw your plants gets arrested and decides to rat you out so he doesn't have to spend 30 days in jail.

It always amuses me when I see an average joe going out of his way to pay cash, for growing equipment, that he's going to keep and use in his house. That doesn't save you from getting caught, it just gives the cops one less piece of circumstantial evidence to collect if they start an investigation on you. If an informant says your growing pot (which is how most people get busted), the fact that you paid cash for your equipment isn't going to help you.

That's why I maintain that, if the cops are looking at either your electric bill or your credit card statement, you're already fucked. The only reason they have for looking at that shit is if somebody told them you're growing pot and they start an investigation on you.

Happy luck and good growing!!!!

If they're collecting that info, they've already got a reason to come knocking. They literally NEED a reason to even look at your credit card statement, without one it's an illegal search.

the way i would see it is you could get the light rail and yes it would help spread the 250 across a bigger space put your still only going to get buds as big as a 250 can grow, the money its going to cost you for the light rail plus the electric to work the light rail then the hassle to set it all up, or buy another 250 which will spread your light just as far as the light mover would by having the 2x 250 watts side buy side but your going to have much bigger buds with twice the light and the money an extra 250 would cost in electric would be nothing, infact i bet you could get atleast 2 grow out of them for the set up cost of the light mover! extra 250 all the way!

Thanks guess i just wanted the rail idea to too much to work day in day out another light thanks +rep ^. Is a "6 vent fan enough for the heat im gonna be producing?

yea every1 heres on the money. another 250 will be 10 x better in your case and a 6in would be perfect for that (500w). i have 2 6in on 1000w and its overkill but better more than less.

8 inch will do fine, you could use a speed controller to slow it down and also reduce the noise.
