Did I fuck up my plants?

so I got a cheap ph pen ($5) from hong kong that actually had good reviews but I was still skeptical. Anyways, long story short, today I found out that the meter is a peice of crap and my ph was way off for my whole veg (ph was around 4.0-4.8 at all times). The plants actually grew ok it seems but there was definitely always something 'off' about them (you can just tell when plants are happy). So today I stopped being cheap and got a good ph pen for $140 and the liquid indicator test for backup so my ph from here on will be right. But will my plants be shitty in the end because of the bad ph or will they slowly start to get better?

Also, are you supposed to soak the ph pen probe in 4.0 calibration solution when not in use?

Since you fixed the PH issue pretty quickly there shouldnt be any overal effects to your plants.you can always look in on them over the coming days to help out your mind at ease.

Yeah I was just wondering if the stress would hermie it or reduce potency or anything.

as ive no expeirnce with your growing method I cant offer better advice. but they will show you have there feeling so do worry to much. also try to avoid double posting the same questions on muiltple threads as a single thread of your questiosn is often perfectly fine for others to see when they log on :)

The best things with those cheaps pens are, go to the local store and pick up some ph7.
Use that to calibrate it, then it works fine. I bought a cheap one also then a expensive one, both work fine once calibrated.

No just put the cap on. The 4.0 and 7.0 are for recalibrating...FYI There is nothing cheap about this game your either in it or your not. Invest in Blue-labs you need to stay on top of PPM's and Ph and cheap shit is unreliable and will cost you your nuts in the end...

WRONG! If the instructions call for 4.0 or distilled water for the probe to stay moist it must stay moist. If it is a moist-probe it will be ruined if left to dry.

hotrodharley is correct. the more expensive pH meters will have a small membrane near the bottom of the glass probe, which must be kept moist. If you have salt crystals on or in your pH meter, then it is probably not working properly and needs to be cleaned (if possible), or replaced.
