Did I Fuck Up? + Rep Please

Alright so, I just planted 11 seeds and im kinda sketched out. I germinated them using the wet paper towel method, got 100% germination. Then i realized i had no potting or seed starting mix. FML, so i had to do a quick little thinking and what i did was fill 11 small little plant pots with vermiculite and perlite. its prolly 80% verm 15% perlite and 5% Mt. Spur 2009 alaska ash (the shits great for fertalizers, i gathered it myself living in alaska) anyways i sprayed quite a bit of water into each pot so that the water was dripping outof the holes in the bottom. i noticed that the mix was really compact so i gave the pots a few good taps on each side to kind of mix the soil around. Now, i planted each of the seeds prolly 1/4 inch max in the soil just like im supposed to. Its been 24 hours and they still havent popped their little heads up. could the mix be too compact for my babies to shoot their taproot down? or is this just normal because i have grown plants before i just dont remember how long it took for their heads to pop up. i am currently running lights overhead to keep it warm. PLEASE HELP ME + REPPPPPP to any helpers

If you could post pictures any way it would help alot. I have a 100% perlite grow in hempy buckets, check out my grow pics if you desire! They are coming along nicely. Anyway, far from the point from what you're telling me I don't think that would be a problem... unless you packed it down to where you have to dig to stick your finger in... you should be able to just move your finger around the mixture. I like that you also added vermiculite to your mixture. Perlite is not a bad idea! However, yes, it can be tricky... especially with seedlings, like your situation. If you can get ahold of ANY hydro nutes, that would help the little babies out ALOT. So don't fret on having no soil...

it will probably take more than 24 hours for them to pop up. probably two or three days. just give them some time. also, it's the root that comes out of the seed first and that should be put in the soil pointing down. if you did not do that it may also take them a lil more time

Very, very true. I planted some seeds outside in my backyard just for shits and giggles and it actually took them a week to sprout out of the ground!

sweeet thangs guys that just took a load off my chest. yeah i planted them with the taproot down, and i didnt really pat it down, i just covered it back up with the verm. and sprayed a lil water on. Im using cfls unfortunately, 25 watts average per plant in a about a 5 square foot box. 6500ks. thanks for the input. i had no idea that you could grow straight up in perlite, thats pretty lagit. ima check out your grow

Hey, no problem! Yes, you can grow straight out of perlite, or any good medium for hydro. I like to call what I have a poor-man's hydroponic system. Lol, Also nothing wrong with some CFLs, shit I use them. Ofcourse the more, the better. I've got two 55-WATTs and they are doin the job! Let me know what you think of my little grow... I've only two plants, however I expect to get anywhere from a half ounce off each plant to an ounce per plant. I originally started with 5 seedlings of bagseed, but sadly three were male and I reluctantly plucked em. If you have any other questions, let me know!

Give it a few more days and dont go digging around in there to get a peek. Also remember that there are no nutes in the medium so start feeding soon after sprouting. Next time have soil or jiffys ready and be better prepared.

Probally gonna want to get some soil soon. I more normal soil mix is a bit easier to grow in. You should be just fine. Use caution when fertilizing. Wait as long as you can.

I am from Alaska as well.
