Differences in bud?

When I look at my buds they are white and frosty with a slight yellow color. I mean slightly yellow. When I compare my buds to that of some other growers, their buds look like they were rolled in bright yellow mustard powder.
My buds never look like that and my buds are more potent in most cases. Why do some growers buds look like they are covered in yellow mustard powder?

Well, when you cure them good they should turn a bit yellow/orange/brown even. As the Chlorophyll degrades the other pigments start to show through. I had some real yellow looking stuff. It's usually older stuff imo. Depends how yellow you let them get in the last weeks of flowering too.

I know that with some varieties as the trichs turn amber the plant can take on a golden or yellow hue as opposed to the white or silvery hue many have especially earlier on. Never saw one that was so yellow it reminded me of mustard powder though.

My buds always look white with a yellow tint. I see buds all the time at clubs that look like they are rolled in mustard powder if you have ever seen mustard powder before. It's really weird because I see it's quite common. You think it's a sign that the bud is old? Another thing that bugs me is I see vendors just tossing buds in huge plastic bags. I mean shoving a pound or two in plastic bags. I only use glass jars or several glass jars as I think plastic bags mess up the buds. Then those plastic bags are slammed down and manhandled.

Hmmmm... I don't know man.

I know this though... if the club doesn't have quality comparable to my own product I tell them so and don't buy. But if they do I also tell them so and keep coming back. I went to a club recently to pick up some concentrates and while I was there I checked out there GSC. It was fake and I told them so. I still bought a bunch of hash, and told them how nice their Grapefruit Haze is, but also told them that their GSC is likely fake.

I don't think it's old, but more likely cured well. Depending on the strain dfferent colors come out. Look up info on Terpentines/terpenes, and caratanoids. I probably butchered those words, but you can find them.

I don't think so. I have cured buds for anywhere from weeks to a year and the final colors don't change that much, except in intensity. If you have ever seen mustard powder it looks a lot like kief. I am wondering if the buds were just harvested late and the trichs are very amber giving an over all golden hue to the bud.

It's probably not one definite thing bro. I've grown bud that was was picked at like 8 weeks that was yellow. I'll post some pics. It wasn't yellow when I picked it, and there is a process known as yellowing. Look it up, seriously. It's the process of chlorophyll breaking down and then the other pigments show through. Curing is actually a biological process where the bud even though is cut/trimmed and drying is still alive and biodegrading. That hay smell when people first cut their bud down is the gas coming out of the bud from the enzymes breaking down pigments. It's mainly Chlorophyll gas. IMG_0729.jpgIMG_0730.jpg

That stuff was green as hell when I chopped, after about a 3 month cure, and then being stored from around a year it looked like this. It looked more yellow, and frosty in person. Stunk like hell too. Grape God is the strain.

I understand that, but if you read the first post he says it looks like it was rolled in mustard powder. Mustard powder looks a lot like kief so perhaps I am just misunderstanding him, but I was taking that to mean that it had the normal sugary appearance of a plant with a high number of trichomes but instead of the white or silvery effect it can have, that it looked yellow. I am focusing on the trichomes here and the hues they impart, not the rest of the plant matter. You know how a purple plant can be super purple but a dense trichome covering can give it a silvery or white effect or look to it?

Am I off base here? :)

No, I know what mustard powder is. I think people just have trouble explaining what they're saying sometimes and it's hard to convey it over the internet. I know what you mean about amber trichs making bud look more orange/yellow though.

Absolutely. Pics would help. And who knows... maybe it's some Russian cartel mob dispensary and they really are rolling the buds in mustard powder!

I always thought the yellow came from the clubs keeping their buds in clear glass container under light.

Hornedfrog your buds look good and don't looked like they were rolled in mustard powder. Mith, the buds I'm talking about do look like keif but instead of yellowish green, they look like straight mustard powder.

Maybe Soup is right? Do you think the light is degrading the trichs? They are in a clear glass container but under weak floros 6 feet high.

It's driving me crazy trying to figure out the cause. I wonder if pesticides are causing the color change? I have met many cool people who runs clubs. One club I buy from everyonce in awhile, I thought was clean. I overheard them say,"Hey man, our %$*@ Strain has bugs on it." Other Guy,"Oh! Hit it with some Avid!" I saw it and the damn thing was in full flower with 3 weeks left. I never bought anything from them again. My girl use to cough all the time. She got a bad fungus infection in her lungs last year and almost died. We use to sample hundreds of strains a year for free or at cost. So that we could find strains that we like and collect them from clones. I think she smoked some moldy bud from a club. Since she stuck to the herb that I grow, she has not had any problems.

Sounds shady. Make sure your clubs have a good rep or just grow your own I guess.

I think all clubs are shady, think about it? They are ALL for profit! I have yet to see a non profit club. Besides when vendors bring in the bud, they don't know where it's been.
