thats cuz its all hype!! the only cool thing about a digi is the dail down ability, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT!
you buy a ?watt digi and dail it down. if thats the case just save money and buy a smaller ballast.

Well sinse this last post of mine i have takin the great leap of faith and replaced all mag style ballasts to lummatek
and i got to say i love them lol, was was hard to move on from old school ways but worth it.

Me too, just within this last month. So far I love them, quiet, much cooler running, and I can dial them down when I do my foliar sprays. Win, win, win... And cleaner power, generator ready etc...

Maybe it was rated for 120v or 240v and you may have been running it off the recommended voltage. Some houses also put off less volts then what is needed. For example, a 120v socket can sometimes be anywhere from 115v to 125v and the difference in voltage can mess up the capacitors and resistors on the inside of the ballast, although they try to make their products capable for accepting these changes it does mess up from time to time. I'm not saying that is the specific cause, but that happened to me with a cheap ballast, wouldn't accept any outlets in my house. Also a jump in the current can cause it to blow, like if you plug it in the. Pull the cord out then plug it back in right away without a cool down period, you can easily break the ballast, the spike in voltage can cause the capacities to burn out.

I have two magnetic ballasts, and love them. Growers have been relying on magnetic ballasts for decades. Never had a single problem with either one. All the MH and HPS street lights in my city are magnetic. They never have any issues it seems.
