Dirty Oil

"One of the defining characteristics of politicians is a penchant for saying dumb things when they think it might make them more popular and win some votes"

A quote from the National Post referring to Obama's talk of "dirty oil" from the Alberta Oil Sands. As a worker on the Oil Sands, I find it unbelieveable that anyone would want to put it to a close. Obamas talk of Americans being handcuffed because of their dependibility on "foreign oil". Canada is Americas largest supplier of oil.The biggest alternative sources are Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Nigeria, Venezuela, Iraq, Algeria, Angola and Russia. So wherer is he looking to get oil from? Maybe Mexico, though reliability is an issue, as its oil is running out. I really cant see any actually moves being made, seems like talk "we should do something", although i doubt anything will actually will be done (I cant see how he could afford to do anything but talk).

Any thoughts or insights on this issue?

I say we make Iraq pay us back(as was told, sold) in oil.Cut off the large suppy going to China(by sanctions str8 from the UN) Open up the reserves, cut out the gas tax,cut the war funding and use that money for future tech(wind/water/solar power)

I guess it really depends on if the american government wants to lower gas prices

B. Hussein O'Bama will say whatever he feels people want to hear. His goal is to attain power, pure and simple. If he wants my vote, here's what he needs to say:

"If elected president, I will immediately use my office to influence Congress and the Senate to remove as many restrictive regulations against the oil companies as possible, while keeping the environment stable. I will direct the Department of Energy to authorize the immediate building of nuclear energy plants and new hydro-electric dams throughout the country as needed. I will encourage a large scale shale-to-oil program in the various states that contain those resources. I will meet with the leaders of industry to encourage alternate solutions. I will encourage the auto manufactures, through tax incentives, to build hydrogen, Hybrid and plug in electric cars. I will encourage NASA to do research on energy solutions. I will make energy independence the top priority of my administration. If President Kennedy's program of putting Man on the moon was successful, how can we, as Americans, the most productive people the earth has ever known, fail in our endeavor to succeed at energy independence? We won't fail. We cannot fail. We will lead the world in the technology that will ensure our success and the success of our neighbors throughout the world. Thank you my friends ... I am looking forward to your vote in November."

I seriously doubt that he needs or wants your vote. I'm pretty sure he'll do just fine without it. Why would he want someone as crazy as you voting for him, an oxymoron for sure.

Vi get off it, it doesn't matter who gets in office be they Liberal, Conservative, Libertarian, Socialist or flat out Communist, they will all sell us down the river. Neither Party or politician, be they Ron Paul, McCain, Obama, Nadar or Mickey Mouse they will all do the same thing. None are our saviours.

Med ...

We can discuss politics like two gentlemen or we can have a real shit-fest. For the record, I prefer the gentlemanly approach.

Your call ... :blsmoke:

of those choices, i believe the mouse to be the best. for years now i've been avidly campaigning for zippy, i think this year he just might have a chance. i think the american public has finally realized that all of the available choices really are pinheads, so why not vote for the one that advertises himself as such.

(.... I think violence might have to be the answer, though, unless someone can come up with something REVOLUTIONARY:mrgreen:)
though the violent overthrow of a corrupt government is always a possibility, violence is an act of desperation and a confession that we are incapable of finding a rational answer to our problems. our best course for the moment is to deny government its power over us. refusing to pay homage to the liars and cheats that inhabit the halls of power, we lead by example and leave them with only the power to imprison us. millions imprisoned for merely refusing to submit to an unjust slavery makes a far more powerful statement than any armed insurrection. civil disobedience combined with, but separate from, a campaign of strategic strikes against the most corrupted segments of the infrastructure would be more than adequate to force change. forcing the division of the nation into a series of autonomous states gathered loosely under the umbrella of a weak federal government (the original intent of this country) should be the aim of such a revolution.

Mickey Mouse for Prez~ Yeah!

You're right, undertheice. The libbies like to tout Bush's low popularity rating, but the popularity of congress is much lower.

This fall, fire them all. :blsmoke:

i think a more appropriate answer would be to give them all a little time on the farm. i'm sure they could all do with some therapy, maybe a little ect or a lobotomy or two. perhaps then they could become useful members of society.

How exactly should we implement the movement?
it is less a movement than a way of life. every time someone else falls off the grid and denies their pound of flesh to the federal government, the opposition to tyranny grows. every time you speak to someone about the overreaching of federal authority and you see that light come on in their eyes, the people gain a bit more power. this is not an overnight revolution. it is the natural evolution of a society, getting america back on the track it was destined for. we should be a society where freedom is valued more than survival. instead we are becoming a land filled with people more intent on comfort than anything else.
