dispensary in Arcata?

I'm told the dispensary's in Arcata are dreadful, rude angry staffers and mite infested buds, mold and or other horrors.

Can any one confirm this or do you live and shop there?
Is their a need for a high end Cannabis club in Arcata that provides grade A++ medicine?
What are the city regulations right now for medical cannabis clubs in Arcata?

Thanks, Arcata was my town for a while.

I went to THC -- The Humboldt Cooperative. You pay a 1-time small coop fee to join. Then you can buy. Selection was fair, quality was less than desired. Got you high, but wasn't top notch. As told to me be a friend who lives there...when you go to Napa do you buy Wine from 7-11? Or do you buy it from the vineyard that grows it? Humboldt is the same way. The only people who go to dispensaries are people who either: A) are new to town and don't know anyone yet... OR B) have burnt all their bridges in town and the only one who will still sell to them is a dispensary.

Thats how it was explained to me...and I saw it first hand too. We hit THC and then drove back down south to Oakland, CA to Harborside Health Clinic. Total night and day difference. Harborside was amazing and the top shelf shit was fire. Humboldt dispensaries sucked...buy from the grower if your buying in Humboldt. :)

Hope this helps..

Don't bother with the dispensaries in Arcata. They are useless. The I center is just a front and the one by the hydro store is nothing more than a breeding ground for spidermites.

this is mostly true, and substitute 'buy from' for 'sell to' for another look at the issue.
the thing is, as it has always been in Humby, the inner circle doesnt easily let the newbys in. This is still true at the clubs. Those guys have some top notch strains, but you have to impress them to get access.
being a college student there in the early 90's, i saw how protective people were about their sources. Medical was not quickly welcomed by the career growers. I remember in '97 when the first medically legal crops were gong out, the group in Honeydew put out 10 in the full sun, viewable from the road. In those days, when the helicopters came for weed, they would hit everyone in the area, so the neighbors of the med scene were hella pissed. That 10 plant crop did get CAMPed, and so did some surrounding crops. The scene has changed a lot since then. We used to hide our low number crops in the partial shade & walk jugs of water to them because we were scared of water lines leading to them. These days CAMP is too busy pulling crops in the tens of thousands from public land, and they dont get to too many private scenes. The supply volume has gone through the roof, but pulling off a big, high quality crop is harder than almost anyone would believe, so quality has slipped over all. My experience with clubs is limited, but they mostly seem like they are just there for a come up... but that rant is another post!

I've been to two of them, both on the same block as the Hydro store. They both confessed to having mites. The meds looked just good, but the prices were high for how little they were offering to acquire it. I got the feeling they were both only in it for the profit, not to help patients. I didn't get anything from either place and I haven't been back.

The Native American at the mini shop at the Hydro store is very nice and an activist.
He was well knowledgeable about legal ins and out.

I think we are even friends on some level.
Just chatted it up with him. Nice guy!

When I was there the Native American guy was verbally "bashing" the competition and spreading lies about another center's past management. I thought he was kinda' crazy and had his own personal vendetta. They double to triple their costs to the end patient and that is just wrong. Electronics stores survive on a 25% mark-up; why does medicine have to have a 100%-300% markup? I'm just sayin'....

Yes, he nice to the customers but was very rude on the phone and to a vendor that stopped by.

Like I said, I've only been there once and that was enough for me!

This was just my experience, YMMV

Don't waste your time or money there. You can't hit the square and get way better shit from the hippies just watch out for the plaza cams.

We need to setup the "Arcata Free center" where we charge much much much less and donate to the Hospice for the sick and dying.

Why has no one actually opened a not for prophet club dedicated to actual sick people like the law was built for?

There is actually one down here I go through that gives it away. Not to me but a lady with terminal cancer, props to them on that.

There used to be one that was truly not for profit an dedicated to the sick. The original big center in Arcata was great. I was a member.

They had a lounge, tons of books and information, free legal advice from a real attorney, and a full staff and gave away medicine every day to those who needed it. They closed though due to management walking out on their board of directors. There was a big problem with the board of directors, internal stuff I guess... So after the management staff left, it just folded up. Sad, very sad.

I had a dear friend who worked there as a volunteer. He passed away a couple years ago, I still miss him very much. We met at that center in 1997. I have good memories of that place. They opened in '97 right after the law passed but closed a few years later.

Now, it all seems like a way for profiteers to make huge salaries and call it a "not for profit" business. Again, sad... very sad.

I volunteer! Do you know a building for rent or an attorney that can help?
That seems to be the "issue" here. Finding a landlord that is not only cool with it but one who will also not charge double or triple the going rate to do it. I don't know any attorneys who would do it for free. I know a few that might give us a discount, but that is as good as it gets.

I do think that we need a truly not-for-profit center in Humboldt again, but I don't have the energy or resources to do it. I'd gladly support it, but I'm not able to do more....

Hi, I formed a not for profit and would still like to work with others starting a club.
I have 100% of the paperwork done, I can afford first and last.. yadda, yadda...

Would like to work with people such as interns freshly graduated from med school, yadda, yadda... counseling for war vets, blah..blah..
whole 9 yards.

Plus I can pay for it but would need partners that would like a job...

One of the ideas I though was medical grade herb for roughly the same price but instead of the extra moneys going to a high priced club owner the moneys could go to some kind of "Social services" or food program.
I know in trinity county they have a total moratorium on clubs and the local hospital is about to shut down, yet they wont allow these clubs even with some voluntary tax.

Pipe dreams I know! But I'm just lacking a great place to rent and solid people are all over.

I forgot to mention, a lawyer with a social worker degree from Berkley is willing to work with us.

Your best bet for finding a spot in arcata is contacting one of those "business" off the plaza that don't seem to be selling anything or don't appear to ever be open. I'm sure you know what they are all about. They will probably be the only people willing to rent to you. Offer to help them out in exchange. I'm sure a deal can be made. Maybe even offer them a minority silent partnership so they can still have a legit source of income. But most landlords even in Arcata are managed by commercial property management corporations who will automatically say no to that use even in the rare cases where the building owners would be open to it. Your only other good shot at finding a place is knowing an owner of a commercial property personally.

Hay dan, also its like "Bringing sand to the beach" huh?
eheh,
lol. sorta, yeah. But i really think a club in Arcata could work if done right. The prices/selection would have to be much better than the clubs up there and you'd have to offer products that people couldn't get from their neighbor. A steady supply of honey oil and edibles would get lots of repeat business.
