Nice set up! Kinda looks like my still but i have a stainless pot runnin straight to copper tubing, no pipe/thumper in the middle.

The only thing im confused about is the plastic cone on the end and the plastic cup.

Ive always been told that you should stay away from plastic because the alcohol comin out the worm is still pretty warm (makin it in your kitchen is easier to keep it cool though) and can cause it to melt and even burn/catch the plastic on fire.

Just some tips from the old timers who make it around where im at. They all love mason jars hahaha.

thanks alot,
i love using a thumper because it basically double destills every run, as the first pot heats up enought for the ethanol to evaporate (76c or something) it travels into the thumper which acts like a bong half full of cold water, re condensesing the alcohol. then after a little while the thumper heats up enough to evaporate the alcohol into the worm.

the plastic "spout" i kinda had to put there because the copper fitting that goes thru the bucket wasnt threaded on the outside, so i cut a bottle apart and rolled it up in there. the alcohol that comes out is very cold though, i place my hand in the worm bucket and feel the coil, and it is only warm for the top 6-8 inches, the bottom half of the coil is always water-temp. i dont like using plastic either, but i carbon filter all shine before it goes into the final container (mason jars) so most taste is filtered out anyways.

its good to hear from another person with a still, you should check out my journal, it has a full run-down of my setup.
what kind of mash do you normally use? i use straight up sugar and turbo yeast,

We use the same yeast and mostly sugar. We use a modified black beard recipe with added apples. So its technically a "brandy" because its technically wine opposed to "beer".

If you havent seen the black beard recipe its like any other recipe except you use molasses and honey in replacement of some sugar. So we just took that and added a dozen apples or so. Did it like they make apple juice with a mix of a few different types of apples.

Hahaha..I live an hour away from the moonshine capitol of the world..fanklin county va...all those moonshiner shows are filmed near here..infact my buddys dad is friends with the redheaded cop from the v.a.b.c. from the first season..and the 'nip joint' bust on that show was 2 blocks from my old house(coincidentally right across the street from the dope/crack spot)..I've allways wanted to build a still but there's so much shine that goes around I'm not even gonna bother..apple,peach brandy, green apple(taste like jolly rancher!),strawberry, pure white ligtning, oaked whiskey,scotch..all available at a reasonable price..20 a quart usually...
'Itll get ya there,it'll get ya there quicker..taking big sips of that good corn liquor!'
(It also aids in the laying of lsd..)
Nice post bro! Some people could def benifit...they sell ready made countertop distillers at the growshop near here..you can take flat beer or old wine and distill the alcohol out on your stove and countertop..steinbecks 'cannery row' comes to mind whenever I think of this...

I have a 2" boka style reflux column, with a secondary condenser and a 15 gallon beer keg as a pot

All copper column filled with copper reflux media (no brass)

I have no problem pushing 190+ proff using a wood stove as a heat source

Now if only I drank

thats cool, i have been interested in a reflux instead of a water cooled worm,
i let the proof of mine drop because people prefer it a little milder  the first litre comes out above 160 proof, but i collect 2l each run, so it levels out at 140-ish.

i like to use my stove because it is electric, so even if i spill all over it it wont ignite. i probably wouldn't do this inside on a gas stove. or i would build another still with that in mind.

now that i have liquor on hand at all time i dont really drink much either, only on a night when something is happening or whatever, or after some real work.

thanks for sharing everybody, where i live running a still is basically unheard of, so there arent many people to share with.
got any pictures? lol feel free to post them up!
