DIY 3' X 3' Ebb & Flow 2 Week Cycle SoG

OK, here I will be discussing a temp solution. I wanted to build a special type of vertical grow, but time is limited. Anyway I have a 4' x 4.5' x 9' closet that I am going to place a 3' x 3' table in the middle of with a 400W HPS and warm white CFLs as supplemental lighting.

Plants are going to be grown with the lollipop method so there is little height adjustment of the HPS.

So here is my current shopping list, the design is not complete but it is a little more than a pipe dream.

I have already covered the closet in plastic.
3' x 3' ebb & flow tray from a hydro store
Wood to build the table
Pond liner for the floor
1/4" white Plexiglas to build dividers from.
400W HPS ballast
Air cooled hood
Ducting
Noise isolated blowers
Four 5 gallon rubbermaid tubs
Four pumps
Four sets of ebb & flow fittings

Plan is to divide the 3' x 3' table into 4 zones. Each zone will be responsible for two weeks of the plants flowering life.

Any ideas to add to this?

I want a SoG of 8 plants harvest every two weeks in solo cups, I think it is do-able in the size and space I have.

More will follow along with pictures and such. I've been very busy lately.

This system will evolve over time to be a stadium style vertical grow SoG that harvests 4 plants every 2 weeks. 16 plants will be in the system at all times in it's final version.

I'm adjusting my new 600W HPS now... I got a big grin on my face! I'm glad I spent the extra $$ now. I'm being forced out of the closet because of ventilation problems. Back to the basement, this setup is growing by leaps. I'm hoping the clones I took will be ready soon to flower.

I don't have a camera but I can show you the advertisement pictures for some of the equipment. I promise I'll buy some batteries soon, I just haven't had time to stop and snag some lithium batteries.

Woo hoo!

Pictures to come one of these days just be patient. I realy have no porn yet just a half setup grow room. I may be switching to 3 divided sections and make each section responsible for 3 weeks of the grow. That will allow my plants to finish a bit more because in my experience these little guys take a full 9-10 weeks. I'm trying a new strain that is more indica so we will see what happens.

By the way here is the current cost of everything you can get from the hydro store, sorry I didn't keep receipts from Lowes and Home Depot. As well as a majority of the things used were cheap at the dollar store or free. These are just the "out of the norm" shopping items I have bought through all the other threads:

Hydroton..... $13.95 x 2
Europonic Rockwool Conditioner..... $13.95
Starter Tray..... $1.75
Starter Dome..... $2.95
Hydrofarm Seedling Mats..... $24.95
Rockwool Cubes AO 36/40..... $9.95
Thrive Alive B-1 RED 250ML..... $14.95
Olivia's Cloning Gel..... $14.95
OMRI Listed Root Juice Stimulator..... $19.95
Fox Farm Grow Big Organic..... $15.95
Fox Farm Tiger Bloom..... $15.95
Diamond Nectar..... $14.94
Champ pH Tester..... $51.95
Sunleaves TDS Essential.... $39.95
600W HPS W/ SunGro Reflector..... $399.95

I have been considering trading my shoddy 3'x3' table to my friend for his home made AeroFlo2 look-a-like system made from plastic fence posts. It would be better for a lollipop grow and would fit more plants, but I would lose control over nutrient per age of plant in the SoG.

I'll try and grab prices and lists of all the other things I have bought... I'm too medicated right now to get up and look.

EDIT: That list just added up to $670.00 WOW!

Returned the Ballast and the ebb & flow table. Got an upgraded 675W ballast with the extra $$ and a new $105 lamp (bulb).

I'm going down stairs now with my new batteries to take some updated pictures of everything.

I'll start a new thread so I can get some votes on what I should do with the setup. I've been looking at my footprint with the lamp on and have been thinking of using dutch irrigation trays on stands at different heights for the plants in a stadium SoG setup. My clones are taking their sweet ass time to root because it is cold.

Be right back...

SunGro2 hood with glass and 600W lamp.

600W Balast.

Light foot print, that is a metal yard stick, 3ft in the middle.

A little further back.

Light at max height and a res.

Is that the room you plan on growing in?

You will lose a lot of light with the walls so far away and no reflective material covering them.

You should invest in a tent. They are only a couple hundred dollars and they're air tight and light tight, and the come with prefab vents for blowers, ducting, etc.

They make it real easy to control your environment and they're a small investment in the long run.

i dont want to sound rude but with that space, plus the money you have in itm you could have had alot better setup. For insstance, 400$ for a 600 watt light? with that space you should have bought a 1000... and 3x3 ebb and flow tray divided into 4 zones in a 4x4.5x9 closet? In that space and you wanting to run 4 diiferent zones, i would do either 2 2x2 ebb and flow and divide both by 2. example, 1 2x2 tray with 2 pumps, and the same with the other one. If it was me, i would have bought a 1000 watt light, and run 2 0r 3 3x3s withhh a vertical light. but thats me.. Like i said, im not hatin but with your space and money you put into it, you could have a setup that would yield alot more...

Thanks for stopping by, I'm actually not in crunch time yet, another week or so. This weekend I'm going to enclose a 6' x 6' area around the box with a pvc structure and put mylar on the instide...

I'm just thinking of using 6 dutch irrigation trays in a stadium arrangement so that I don't have to adjust the light. The light is at it's highest right now. I'm not sure if I will build a structure inside the pvc box to hold the light or not.

Thanks for the kind words.

Well buddy you are rude, but not because of your insults to my setup but for not reading my entire thread before you post.

Yes, $400 for a GOOD 600W light, I do not shop online I support the local grow shop. Why don't you take a trip down to the grow shop and get a pro grade hortilux 675W electronic ballast and a $105 bulb and a $150 light hood. Tell me what you spend?

By the way a bigger grow of the same quality would cost nearly double. Nutrients are expensive and I would never skimp on my plants food. I only have enough nutes to last until the end of flowering the first round, after that I have to get the gallon jugs of nutes for $50 a pop! I would never skimp on my nutes to buy a "better setup".

The 3'x3' tray was returned once I started playing with my light footprint.

I have space for 2 600W in the future, I'm not producing commercial herb here, I'm producing for myself. I'm happy with just 600W, as I do pay the electricity bill also. I have seen respectable yields with just a 400W that would be ok with me.

You also missed my first post where that this setup will EVOLVE into a vertical grow, I already have the light hangers.

Re-read everything as I'm sure you can tell this is not a 4x4.5x9 closet.

But this is:

Please read the thread before you post garbage, go back to Texas and enjoy your Mexican Schwag then re-read everything you missed and then give me a fresh opinion.

Youve got an awesome space to work with.
And I like how your setting up, thats an awesome light setup you got. Way nicer than my cheapo electric ballast that likes to burn out bulbs.

The 600w light is already 30 bucks tacked onto your electric bill every month and for some people (like myself) that can be considered a lot of money. I have room for 2 1000w lights but I choose to use a single 600w in a 5x5 area and get right around a pound every 2-2.5 months. PLENTY for me. :bigjoint:

I cant wait to see you get some growin, Ill be around and waiting. Oh im going to go vote in your other thread :bigjoint::blsmoke:

Thank you, your highness, ha ha ha... Anyway I have seen your grows also! Thanks for stopping in. I really enjoyed your scrog setups, way better than the chicken wire I used back in the day!

It is cold here and my clones are taking their sweet time to root. I feel they are going to root some time next week. Just going on experience. That is when I should have some new pictures up. I'm going shopping at the local home improvement store to "improve" this setup on either Friday night or Saturday during the day. I still need to pick up a fresh bottle of Diamond Nectar too!

Only thing left for me to figure out is how much pvc to buy and how many elbows. I'm going to need three 20gal Rubbermaid tubs because I know I'm going hydro but the rest is up in the air! I figure 5gal per plant seems to work great. I had a few 4gal Waterfarms back in the day that is kinda like a drip system. That worked ok but the roots really seemed to fill the space quickly, an extra gal might help me out.

I have not installed my RO water system yet, can't figure it out and I think a plumber will have to come by. I need to pick a kosher plumber to do it too!

Keep on :bigjoint: boss, glad to have your seal of approval!

BTW, I also can't wait to see some growing there also!

ya buy a tent. U own a house so i know u can afford a tent
Not in this day and age, I'll be building one to save on $$ to cover the mortgage. (There is a family and 3 other souls that require funds too).

The thread is more about the hydroponic system that should be used.

I plan to build a tent using pond liner and PVC tubing.:joint:

Thanks for stopping by!

yea i guess people dont understand that a grow has more factors than space and start up cash 1000w 18 hrs a day is a lot of money

True, true, thanks for stopping by. I hope you voted in my thread!

Soon I will have pictures available.:leaf:

Heavy construction starts on Saturday. Don't expect step by step as I hope most viewers are able to add 2 + 2 and come up with 4 on their own. I just don't have the time or expensive camera batteries to do so!

At the latest pictures will be available to the interweb by Tuesday at the latest.
