DIY Air Conditioning For Closet Grows

Hey guys, im new around here first post actually, but i have been browsing for awhile getting all the great useful info available for my diy closet setup. Sometime i will get around to taking some pics.

Anyway i thought i would give back somehow have not seen anything like this posted on mj forums hopefully it sparks some great ideas.

Items Needed:
Cooler, Duct, Fan, Tape, Ice

What I Used:
Sytrofoam Cooler, any would work, others may infact work better.
6inch Duct , you could you smaller or larger.
6in Shitty Inline fan from HD had to make use of it somehow, could use pc fans.
Gorilla Tape, or duct tape
Bunch of Ice, could even use freezer packs and you wouldnt have to keep using lots of ice.

Real Simple concept here is a little drawing i put together sorry for lack of pics.

But basically just fill the cooler up with ice.
Cut round hole in the lid to fit the fan just right.
Attach duct to fan and attach end of duct to intake into grow space.
I also taped the lid to the bottom to keep it more air tight but if you buy a coleman cooler or something that may be different.
Would have bought one of those but didnt have a dremel to cut so styrofoam was better/cheaper alternative. This concept will only work for smaller applications. My space is 2ftx2ftx4ft so this works great.
Was able to drop temps 10-15 degrees. You will have to change ice daily if not more, but it def works. :-P

Please give some feedback and ideas to make it better would be great.

Thanks guys! :weed:

that's interesting. I might have to use something like this to keep my 150w hps cool, because i'm growing in a similarly small box, so I need all the grow room i can get. I would probably use ice packs, because then you can have like 6 and rotate them out or something like that. +rep for the ubercheap cooling idea!

I wonder if one of those desktop coolers ( like the ons for 1 can) could somehow be hooked up to cool a seeam air tight grow box/// use co2 paintball tank for added air inrichment, but will also cool the air....
DRY ICE works great... wont disturbe your humidity, cools your box. but it evaporated within a few hours...

CO2 will allow a plant to withstand hirer temps

I have the Co2 canisters for a BB gun pistol, would that do the same thing? Also, I have heard that adding co2 will raise the temps, but i've never heard that they will allow the plant to withstand higher temps, where are you getting that info from? (Not that I don't believe you, just checking facts.) If co2 really does allow plants to withstand higher temps, it would be an easy way to either have a bigger light, or keep your light closer, because co2 isnt very expensive. At least the bb gun ones weren't. They were like $5 for 5 or something like that.

Thanks for all the comments guys! Closetfreak I think it would work would cost a bit more unless you find a cheap peltier and heatsink pretty much what it is.. they have lots of them on ebay wonder if you hooked up like 4 of them into a small rubbermaid or something

the higher co2 levels will allow the plant to use the light more affectivly, and will boost photosynthesis, This boost in photosynthesis will cause the plant to transpire more rapidly. Which is like a person sweating, the sweat cools you off.
