DIY DWC Heat Exchanger

If you are a DWC Grower, then you know how much of a pain it can be to keep your res nice and cool.
Last night I realized that I had all the parts needed to build my own Heat Exchange system for my DWC res.

Parts Required.
1. Submersible water pump.* (an inline pump would be a better choice, but I already had the submersible pump on hand, and it was free)
2. 6’ ft of black 3/8” id tubing.
3. Heat Exchanger
4. Compression fittings 3/8”
5. Fan(s)
6. Filter Bag
7. Scissors

The Submersible water pump can be found at any home, and garden store for about 10 -15 Dollars, put off very little heat at about 10 gallons per hour, and come with an adapter for different tubing sizes.
The tubing, compression fittings, and filter-bag can be purchased from your local hardware store.
The heat exchanger is really the only part you may have to order out for.
That is unless you have access to an old refrigerator, in which case you can just rip the condenser coils from the back of it.

I will be starting this little DIY project tonight. I will take some pictures of the processes, and of the finished product which I am going to post later along with detailed instructions on assembly. I am estimating that this will bring the temp in my res down at least 5 – 10 degrees.

If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
