Well yeah but people grind/sharpen mower blades all the time on em. Shouldn't be much different, if anything the metals used in the rulers should be much softer and easier to grind down. In theory at least. lol

i dont think it needs to be that sharp but if you have on go for it
if you look at this video when the guy opens the top of the cutter you can see that the blades are ruler shape and about as thick as a metal rulerand you prolly can buy a thin metal strip thinner then a ruler

a sharping stone is not that much(i'm sure your grandfather or an old uncle should have one

check out what this kid did to this ruler

$15 plastic box fan retro fitted with a sharped metal ruler
in the video you will see flaps on the blades ,that just there to help make the air push the cut plant matter down and not back into your face i say just put on eye glasses

i dont think it needs to be samurai sharp remember, i used a plastic fan blade and it cut majority large fan leaves just fine. maybe when i get though the rest of these projects i will build one using one of these fan motors. dc, a bench grinder motor will be for industrial use bud! like the ones u buy for a couple grand. if you build it...she will get you high.

holy shit they got a smaller one called the garden barber lol

Unlike unwieldy hedge trimmers, this shrub sculptor is about the size of a telephone handset to enable precise shaping of bushes. Its 4" stainless steel rotary blade quickly cuts through branches up to 1/4" thick, mulches the clippings to 1/10th their original size, and sends them to its integrated receptacle. The receptacle holds up to 1 1/2 gallons of clippings and fits inside the included shoulder bag. The blade is powered by a powerful 7 1/4-volt motor and the lithium-ion rechargeable battery provides up to 35 minutes of trimming after a five-hour charge. 12 3/4" L x 6 3/4" W x 6" H. (3 lbs.)

Item 78162
$99.95

i was with you shit for a while but after long concideration i decided im just gonna buy this, its only $500, thats 10 times the cost of a diy but i think well worth it. also i am all about using nice new clean products. everything i have has been bought brand new and pretty top of the line. this will be nice to add to the collection.

http://www.progressivegrowthhydroponics.com/proddetail.php?prod=spinpro
yeah i see this shit before looks cool
and your right if you have all new shit dont junk it up with some diy looking trash

but me i love diy, i prefer it
you do you and i do me

the kind you buy is nice, nothing wrong with it at all
the one on the right would be real gr8 for harvesting nug at a time
you could really take off the nugs that are ready and leave the rest on the plant with this thing

they also sell blades but nothing jumped out to me
I wouldn't buy them either, I think I'll just use some bar stock and sheetmetal to make a fan blade.

I was also thinking that a cheap round weber style charcoal BBQ could serve as a nice and stealthy (at least for storage) platform. The bottom could catch trim, the grill grate could be the guide, and the top if someone had enough time on their hands could get turned into a spinner like on auto trimmers.

nahh
i think the simplist diy idea is the box fan
it cheap and needs little mod. which make it ez diy

take the box fan. revere rotation. screw sharped metal ruler inplace (rub it on the side walk)
hold between two chair with a micron net under it to catch plant mater (for hash later)
then your done

the guy who made this already said it works like a charm and need very little improvement
if you needed to stealth it just put a wooden slab over it ..now its a coffiee table or tv stand

dude i'll hand scissors a whole acre before i pay $500 for something i can diy
that pro cut i cant make but this trimmer i can
i can even spend in extra 50 - 100 $ and make it look real pretty
bdazzle the fuck out of it

I already have scrap bar stock and sheetmetal laying around. The only reason I thought of the BBQ thing was I picked one up last year at a garage sale for 5 bucks and I just use my propane one so it wouldn't cost me anything although now that you mentioned it (the bedazzle thing)I might throw some old Harley emblems I have out in the garage on it and pinstripe some flames on.
But I understand that not everyone has these things lying around so I agree the box fan would be more practical. I tend to go Macgyver on projects like these.

Hey TJ I feel ya on the grill man, I think overall that would be the best option. I like how the shape is and it's already on wheels. Then when you're done throw on the lid and presto it's a shitty grill again. lol

All I know is when somebody finally makes this thing it BETTER be Bedazzled like a mofo! I wanna see some bling on that thing. haha

WOW! I was thinking about getting that sping pro trimmer, but this looks great...<wonder if it will work??? my typical harvest consist of 16 plants, so this may do the trick, hell cost $400 le$$...I know nothing beats hand trimming, but do it for a couple of harvest and you will quickly have arthritis!!:wall: BUT, 5hit's idea is interesting!!

Nice, I can buy a replacement grill and have a post harvest feast.. I'm liking this and it will get built now, I won't know how it works til late June or early July so I will probably wait till it gets a little closer for it to get built. I will definitely take pics when I do it.

yeah me to and it comes with a sucktion thingy
all you would have to after markit is a bud friendly screen
and hold it up side down then tap plants on the screen

and i bet you can find that thing way cheaper then that
maybe not made by the same company

easy. go to an ag store and get a chicken wire. the sturdier kind that is about 1/2 inch squares. cut out enouch to fit over their screen. then Jb weld or solder the chicken wire to their screen. just a high idea.

the best thing to go with is the slit style screen
i see all the cutters and trimmers use them

i guess it helps keeps the buds from slipping in
