DIY with Quantum Boards

anyone know if a 4x4 sheet of .125" aluminum would suffice as a heatsink for 5 QBs in an X pattern pushing 125w each? worst case i could mount slate heatsinks above them on the sheet
@Stephenj37826 has lots of experience with QB on plates.
I think 4x4 sheet of .125" aluminum, heats spreads only so much.
It will get a little hot at 125w per board. 90-110W per board may work fine. Yes you can always attach any Slate on the back for better cooling.

Yes 3000K for both veg/flower. 260W kit will give

I would think you will be fine.

Really beating myself up for letting the 3k get sold out this morning and not making an order for the 135w QB288.. I did get the 4K spectrum though and will get a 3k after the restock! Thanks Robin and Stephen and the RiU community for all the hard work!!

I just ordered, please let me know if there is any way I can get the 3k spectrum for the 135w instead of the 4K. Thanks!!

Hey all, Im basically looking to add onto my setup. Wanna get the best this time. Which is the best driver to drive 3-4 boards right now? Im talking which HLG320 should I be looking at? Im looking at the 54v qb288s, In theory 3 boards onto hlg 320 pushing 320 watts? Does that work out?

Ps all your suggestions on post 3900 are pretty good IMO. The setup is a little offset like with driver mounted to current points, moving driver to the center will be good. An XL slate 2 with better spacing is also a great idea.

Another idea I thought was having the driver hover above the heatsink. I know mounting driver away from heatsink is optimal but maybe have a longer set of screws from driver to heatsink and an extra set of washers so the driver has some room to float above the heatsink instead of laying directly on it. This probably wont change temp but maybe? Im sure my thermal physics are wrong.... hah

Slate 2 single is 340mm
Slate 2 double is 600mm

Slate 2 triple XL will 890mm and can hold upto 3 boards. You can just do 2 boards if you want a better spread. Making a drawing today. Planning to make it compatible with hlg185, hlg240 and hlg 320. Driver will sit in center.

Driver in center of heatsink is not best as center is hottest part. This is why slate 2 double has driver slot off centered.
Slate 2 triple will have center driver as it has plenty of cooling capacity to even handle HLG320 with 3 boards.
Remote driver takes the 6-10% heat power outside the tent. I have always used drivers on lamp for simplicity and because I need the additional heat.

Driver hovering over heatsink is a good idea and Steve and I discussed it. Helps run cooler. However Heatsink are already not running too hot. Yes hovering driver looks better than driver sitting at an angle.
We will need to add additional parts to mount the hoovering driver

Best driver combo for multiple board IMO
HLG-240H-1050 with 2x QB304 boards in series
HLG-240H-2100 with 2x QB288 boards in series
HLG-480H-2100 with 4x QB288 boards in series
HLG-120H-1400 with 2x QB288 boards in series
HLG-240H-1400 with 3x QB288 boards in series
HLG-320H-1750 with 3x QB288 boards in series
HLG-320H-1400 with 4x QB288 boards in series

HLG240 is a good value. HLG320 is almost double the price of hlg240
Hlg480 hard to find

Christmas came early for me.. I expected at least a three week wait ... Got my 135 watt kit in 13 days..
Good job guys!
First thing I did was give my veg plants a light bleaching.. Be careful with these things... They're powerful..
Start high and lower them a couple inches a day or dim em down.. The plants will tell you when their happy..

im pretty stoked to get mine too but to sit here and be happy about a 13 day wait seems a bit silly.
