DIY with Quantum Boards

Yes, my first one was one of those dual scales, it sucked! Hasn't been out of the bottom of my toolbox in 20 years lol! You can find a just metric online though.

And there is a nice site for all kinds of conversions, called Calculate me, I use it alot! https://www.calculateme.com/

Canada gets screwed on this subject. I am constantly googling conversion being Canadian. I know how long 12" 24" etc is but have no idea in cm...

Don't you love those tapes that so nicely have both metric and standard. When you decide to use metric but have to read from the standard side of the tape or vise versa. I never thought of it, is this only a Canadian problem..Dual measuring tapes.

I dumped COBs to get rid of those big, hulking, heatsinks and all that weight. I've got a 4 COB light I'm going to give away after I build a QB to replace it. For me, the QB 96 would be going backwards.
I think the QB288 w/slate 6 may be heavier than the QB Elite 96 w/sstx pictured. A Slate 2 would be lighter for sure. They do however stay pretty stable with fans blowing. Since I laterally hang my fixtures in the 4x8 tent ( drivers remote ) I can still reach in for maintenance. I don't bump my head as often on the 96E's as the fixture is 5" shorter. If HLG had the 288 w/red, I would have probably gone that direction rather than the 96E. I think these smaller fixtures ( 260/320/360 kits builds )work better in tents than the HLG550/600 x2 as you can maneuver between fixtures/reaching accross. Raising/lowering the light would be a pain. I can only access 2 sides of the tent. I have a 260 kit at each end of the 4x8, The 96E fixture at about the 24" mark, each side. A triple in the middle between the poles. A total of 7 QB288 and 4 96E.

I am thinking the 96E would be perfect in a greenhouse for suplimental light, hung higher ( Nateral light would still get through to canopy ). Mixing the 96E's and the QB 288's isn't a perfect scenrio in my opinion but I do like the extra room it has givin and the added reds. Now I have to think about what wattage to run the 96E compared to the 288's. Probabley easier running one or the other.

Right now I am at 170 W per 96E and 125W x3 acroos the middle. About 95W x4 on the ends. Measure from the wall.

What ever size box/closet/tent/room, HLG,s got it covered.

I also included a before and after pic of the added 96E's, you can see what I mean by maneuverability.

Nice build @GreeneryBob . I have been hearing epsom salts is prefered over cal mag since the magnesium is what the plant lacks with lots of light these LED's provide. I recently have been using epsom salts as well. I have been doing a heaping Tablespoon ( 15-20 ml ) per 6 gal mix. How much do you use per gal? Do you use the same amount right up to flush? I understand the epsom salts should be the first mixed, unless silica is being used, then Silica first. "There was some mention of this on the "Grand Master Level Show Episode 105" last Friday.

Brother's Grimm's C99 and Serious Seeds' Bubblegum week 4-5ish.

Sonoff timer
Ilumi dimming
6xQB288 @3000k
4xQBE96
900watts ish right now total
5x5 tent
Megacrop, epsom salt, and MPK
no added CO2

@GreeneryBob, I have 4 QB288 on a Slate6in my 5x5 and it's not adequate. Do you mind if I shoot you a pm and ask you about what drivers etc you are using? I'm ready to upgrade

There are digital measuring tapes now-a-days. Gives you the reading on the actual housing. Then it can give you the measurement in whatever system you want it in. they can also do area and other basic functions for faster computations out in the field

I have one in need of repairs, they are not really practicable in all cases.

I am accustomed to using both systems and get by just fine but I do think it is stupid to be stuck using imperial.

1.) I would wait until the 'R spec' boards are released as they look like the boards to have.
2.) I am using 4 HLG drivers, 2 of the 320 watt, 2.8A units for the elite 96s and 2 of the 320 watt 1.75A units for the QB288s (should've got 2.1A models...oops)
3.) I have waay more watts available than I need
4.) Put your drivers outside your tent if you can

I am being rather unscientific and decided to go with moderation as I want more of my PPMs to come from megacrop than other stuff.
Right now I'm using 40g of megacrop, 5g epsom salts, 5g MKP per 5 gallon jug. Adding this to tap water gives me an ec around 1.6
Plants seem happier after starting with the epsom salts. I just mix it all together in a small jar and shake with water and add the wet mix to the jug, I don't get fancy about what goes in first as the megacrop is already a mix of things that 'don't mix well together' and mixes together just fine. The newer version of megacrop is alleged to be heavier on magnesium so I may go without epsom salts after I get another batch.

I have one 480w, 2.1A driver pushing my four 288s in series. It's the B type so I have a $6 dimmer box from RapidLED installed. (My first DIY dimmer failed). I'd prefer to get up to about 750-ish LED watts in my 5x5.

My driver is mounted on top of my Slate but I may move it. I live in an extremely hot area so we aren't far enough away from have to reconnect the AC for it to really matter much.

Anyone mount 2 QB 288's together? If you have pics please post em up.. I bought 2 of these I do have some aluminum angle 3/4 x 3/4 was thinking I could cut 2" strips use the existing holes on the ends of the heat sink. Drill the aluminum mount the 2 together. Just worried it may be a bit flimsy. Can I wire the driver's to the same power source / same plug? Any tips?

I cut 2' strips as pic, 3/4" angled. I am not sure of gauge but is solid. I even cut some of the aluminum off to help cross air flow ( still solid ). Use single heatsinks so you can customize spacing. I used a 515PV male plug off the driver and a 16 gauge extension cord to power source ( if needed ). I use HLG 240H C2100A driver per 2 288 V1. The fixture started about 35" long ( Pic previous page )until I moved to the end of my tent in which I shortend to avoid contact with fan.

My 96E's have dedicated HLG 185 54A and I wired 2 drivers off 1 515PV ( saves plug space ). THe only problem is when I adjust my internel pot in one driver I have to disconnect the other light. I use one of those "plug into wall meters" to adjust watts. THis is a bit of a pain so I may get dedicated 515PV for each driver. Or perhaps buy a meter that measures between driver and board ( others are using these ).

If you remote mount your driver, remember to upsize the wiring to and from it. #14 should be fine unless you're going crazy far away.
you may want to look at the new saber bars? Adding some of those to the setup you already have could kick up the reds and amperage. I also have mou5 pucks in another tent and they are also great.

If you get sonoff POW2s, you can have the power consumption sent live to your phone as well as set up timers and/or as google or Alexa toturn it on or off.

They are cheap..around $30CAD on amazon, less if you shop around

Thx for the pics looks like a solid build! Is that thermal tape you have on the edges of the boards?

It's 3/4"x3/4" angled aluminum you see. THe heat sink sits in the L and buttressed for stability. I notched the edges on top for cross air flow, probably not necessary. With Slate 2 I believe the fins run the length rather than width ( as you see in my slate 6 ). You only need to drill 4 holes per heat sink and pick up a pack 1/2" long stove bolts. Once everything is tightened up it is solid. I used some nickle plated key rings looped through heat sink fin with 2 rope ratchets for hanging. Just simple to do.

When drilling into angled aluminum use a center punch first or perhaps a large nail would do. Otherwise your drill bit will slide around.

My recent purchase of Wago's was the best thing I had done, highly recommended. I love Wago's

I've just run an entire grow with Mega 2.0, I used nothing else with it start to finish and had no problems. I grew 6 large plants, 5 medium size, and 16 small plants, and three different strains. No cal/mag issues at all.

Great to hear! I bet the greenleaf megacrop thread would love to hear the same. Post there too please?
