DIY with Quantum Boards

I expect the Chinese grow light companies will start knockoffs with these panels. They just destroy the disco light I have, I feel the plants have proper expression "grow more natural" if that makes any sense.
I think that will be tougher. Samsung spent a lot of money to create those boards. I think it will be harder for a Chinese company to knock these off. I want to know how many QB boards I need to pull 2 lb to kick a Gavita's ass.

Samsung didn't make the boards, just the chips. @robincnn and @Stephenj37826 made the quantum boards in their present form, thank them!

4-6 boards will do it.

We all know Mars likes to buy other companies lights to reverse engineer them "seen in a video once". I thank the HLG every time I look into my tent and over at my kill a watt lol.

I have a Mars 600 with two fans. Claims 600 watts and 285 watts a the plug. How many drivers inside? I want to loot out the rig for QBs like the weird golden mask dude. Golden mask dude has serious QB board fixture build skills. He is the new GoldenMau5.

The Mars is a piece of shit. Sucks in flower and I tested a little in veg again. Sucks. I could hammer them with three 2 bulb T8s from Wal Mart in veg. T8 fixture and 2 GE bulbs about $19. 3 of those would kick that Mars ass for Veg. Get them T8s right on top of the plants.

Seriously - F Mars! :fire: :cuss: Good job Robin and Stephen in helping growers with quality grow lights.

I hate that Chinese shit that Amazon and eBay peddle and Amazons phony reviews are even worse. F Bezos too! :fire:

I think HLG has been doing their homework on the needs of " growers " whether meds or produce. I mean these panels are leaps ahead in minimilistic design and uses. Most of those BLURPLE panels use bulk loads of second rate components ( more is better thinking ). Most panels ( single PCB ) have at the most 200 led - Which Mars Hydro dropped to 180 as of late. This QB tech allows even NOOBS to the growing hobby a way " in ".
Even HLG's ready made lights ( cobs ) are great buys and are also a great replacement to existing grows. I believe the PLUG AND PLAY methodology plays big into appeal.

I will be the FIRST ONE to say , i believe HLG will build the first retail built QB light .
Instead riding the cob train ... I believe they will bring a self contained light fixture featuring their QB. They have opened up a niche for all growers to EXPERIMENT with their products. And by watching builds and performance " out in the field " will allow them to further refine future offerings.

I am happy to help spread the word about these fabulous panels ...
Especially the trolls that love HIGH POWER , HIGH HEAT LIGHTS like HID or DE Lights.

Some growers HATE change but HLG , i believe will have a solid impact on the market.

I couldn't have said that any better! HLG are truly my inspiration! When someone tells me I can't something or it's not possible it fuels the fire in my belly! Lmao

The Chinese knock-off existed before the QB, no?

"For sale you best multiple band grow led."

I am betting they'll just change it to mono-white with same style cheap LEDs.

@robincnn What would you guess the equivalent HID would be of my two board build with HLG 120H-C1400A driver running at 100W , 150W and 200W ?
If you are using HLG-120 then you will get 130-180 watts with 2 boards.
email me when you buy boards. I will try my best to send you boards that will give 180watts. worse case 130watts
Not sure about equivalent HID or CMH .depends on wattage. 130W should beat 250W hps . 180 will definitely beat the 250W hps

@robincnn you have prolly answered this a time or two but I just thought I'd get ur opinion
I wanna do a rack system in my closet it's two by two
I was thinking four boards two on top level and two on bottom and wanna use two drivers
Would these work https://cobkits.com/product/meanwell-hlg-120h-48a/ or what's your recommendation
Sorry for not paying great attention I guess lol the things that makes these boards great is they are easy for diy dummies like me I wouldn't know how to wire them either and I still get series and parallel confused but these things make it so easy
Nice ideas in if the height of grow space small.

QB304 need 100+volts. will not work on 120h-48A
I have put series and parallel wiring notes here

Thank you for that info, I was one of the first to buy boards before you started matching, writing the numbers on them. When I turn the driver all the way it reads 190W ish at the kill a watt " I will double check".

image.jpeg It's gonna be a few more weeks before I can make it happen but I am def going to get 4 boards and I think one driver will actually work fine for me in a rack system
I always keep my plants under two feet so I think a 240 will be enough power after seeing the performance my one 90w kit i got from you
So out of the two diagrams which one will give me more power or is there a difference
And will all four boards need to be matching? I guess I can talk to u about it when I order but was gonna go ahead and buy the driver now

Waiting on the lazy ass mailman today .. Didnt bring my original build's missing pieces.

So i finished the second build ........
Dubbed : The BATWING

Original Mars Hydro Conversion project ( Version 2 )

I took the original build i had done and modified it to its current configuration. I replaced the original driver setup and case fans . I used Corsair Hydro Dynamic 120MM fans for the case ..... I used to do various computer modding a few years back ( cooling mods , lights , case mods , etc. ) and this tech is very similar to building gaming rigs.

Power : Main ( Hydro conversion ) is now sporting 120h - C1050 for 110w at center , using a 100k linear pot ( rear ).

2 " Batwings " are powered by Hlg 240h - c2100 for 250 watts .

Total max. power : 360 watts ( full on ) .

I will run these at somewhere between 50-60% power as the 2 wings are passive and may not tolerate that much power. I am already mocking up some ideas for more cooling.
It is always best to have some extra power on hand than building something that may need to be upgraded.

Case needed some touchup so i repainted the case.
" Wings " are able to be swapped ( tray ) for newer tech ( spectrum ) .

Thank You @robincnn @Stephenj37826 @Growmau5 and all the other builders out there for the inspiration. Stay Tuned for the MAIN BUILD ( RA ) , just waiting on the mail ..

Awesome. GoldenMau5! Hey bro. I have a shitty Mars Hydro 600 with 2 fans like your case. How many drivers are in there that I can loot out of the POS? Are these drivers worth pillaging? Thanks homie. :cuss::wink:
