DIY with Quantum Boards

Yes the heatsink can be joined with L channel. Will do a 2 board diy with 120h-c1400and L channel next week. Need a new lamp for 2x2.5 Tomato plant tent.
Will try Active cooling too. Will have to see how to mount the fan.
Robin we both are using identical setups "tent, boards, driver and soon heatsinks" . I've only just tested my boards and driver for a few seconds to make sure everything worked. Do you know what kind of temps we can expect with the heatsinks in passive ? I wonder if that setup will run cooler than my Mars 600 with active cooling ? I'm just trying to plan ahead as we're waiting on the heatsinks.

DHL says heastinks for boards will be delivered Monday 12th Dec.

non anodized sample was at 700ma heatsink running 55C
With final anodized version heatsink will stay under 50C.
Not sure how much are heatsink temps with Mars 600

The setup will run a lot cooler as Mars 600 is i think 300W and the 2 boards with HLG-120 will be under 180Watts. Heat is heat, active or passive does not change total heat generated.

Hi,
when did the new samsung lm 561c diodes that you are using for this project first come out?

Will physics also dictates that the use of optics can take those small raindrops and funnel them into a river. So as long as the volume is there and you direct it correctly"optics" you have the same intense light. These boards are offered just like cobs no optics. As you can see though they are designed around optics. That bar you are looking at above is 240 watts. @18" it's over 1100 PPF in the center. No go look up some 240 watt cob lights at 18" that are that high stand alone that high in a non reflective room. Hey I sell a 630 watt duct cooled cob light. Do you think I would waste my time going backwards really? We not only test and test and test but we also do computer simulations of our fixtures as well. Just wait for the reviews and grow journals to come in then come back and let me know how bad these are. View attachment 3835193

Oh, I can't wait to test mine and see how bad they are.

Terrible.

Awful.

Lol

So horrible I might have to replace everything else with them.

Considering your predilection to vert I wanted to describe the fever dream of a "book" grow w/ "pages of light" using Quantum panels.

It's just a stoned imagining that hasn't been researched in any way except conception but I thought if scrogging for hort grows is the best use of space/light, what if you could turn it on its side in the same space and do more than 1 scrog @ a time vert, each with 2 productive sides being lit over the entire thinly trellised plant?
Would really negate LED's poor penetration rep being an issue.

Build a frame on casters holding aluminum tubing forming "walls" hollow horizontally w/ Quantums arrayed down the length of both sides of that wall and maybe get away with passive cooling @ lower wattage with room circulation?
Mount 2 one sided "light walls" to opposing walls of a room (ceiling too if you want) and alternate
scrog/two sided light wall/scrog
and you have 4X's the output for the same footprint?

@ ~$75 per panel (and needing many 10's of them) it'd be prohibitively expensive (not counting the drivers, DIY time investment, etc.) but down the road with better efficiency @ cheaper prices?

Never mind....I probably just need another bong.
But PM me if the idea tickles your fancy. ;)

It's already being done. ttystikk has done the same type of setup with cobs and he's now about to do it with QB's. He's our guinea pig.

Just keep in mind all going vertical does is use space more efficiently, not the light. Thats why I feel directional lighting like this isnt exactly ideal for vertical growing.

That being said, if money is no object to you, a badass setup could be built.

When you get done playing with your feelings in public and actually have some experience, get back to us.

Meanwhile, you're just talking out your ass.

AGAIN.

Directional lighting works just fine for vertical grows for exactly the same reasons it works well for flatlander grows.

I know that because I've DONE IT.

Quit spewing guesswork and trying to pass it off as authoritative, MORON.

wouldn't it be nice if this forum had moderators that actually gave a shit about all the assholes and trolls on this forum, and enforced rules about polite debate?

ok, so I'm delusional, its why I smoke pot..........

This place has gone down the toilet in the last couple years. Now it's filled with trolls and people pushing their lights on everyone with no ethics or just plain courtesy. I gave up on trying to keep my threads on topic or spam free.

You realize after I get done calling you out in any and every thread it happens in, you end up sticking your tail between your legs and ignoring me.

Instead of just using ad hominem attacks(maybe you should look those up), maybe explain how anything I wrote is wrong?

Are you somehow using the light more efficiently than a regular horizontal scrog? No.

Did I say anywhere it "wouldnt work"? No, I simply said it isnt ideal, which it is not. Then there is the fact that I said a "badass setup could be built" using that method... DID YOU EVEN READ WHAT I WROTE?????????

Honestly, you just get your panties all up in a ruffle when anyone questions your "authority" on vertical growing. I find it comical.

Now please, explain how anything I said is "guesswork"... Or how anything I said qualifies me as being a "MORON" (in all caps no less, lol).

Out of morbid curiosity, who's the asshole/troll you are referring to here?

Wow! So I could use one board to to replace one, gut it and throw the rest out!

Holiday season so shipping taking too long.
Pre drilled heatsinks for Boards will be available mid Next week.

Lets see what we can do with this UFO
All UFO are not the same. This one has 2 drivers for LED. and a 3rd one for Fan.
View attachment 3848773

A single driver can power the board.

View attachment 3848779

So 1 of the 2 drivers of this UFO is able to push 600ma through boards.
No, i cannot connect 2 drivers in parallel to get 1200ma. 2 drivers can power 2 boards separately

No Air movement. Driver with no load is 30C, Driver at full load 60C
This generic Driver is maxed out so could use a little bit airflow.

board wont fit inside the tiny UFO.

Still defending your bullshit. There's nothing in your posts that's worth the effort to read it, hence why I have you on ignore.

You still don't have any experience to back up your bullshit and you change the subject every time I've called you out on it.

If that isn't evidence of moronic behavior, I'm sure you'll be along in a minute and demonstrate some more.
