DIY with Quantum Boards

I'd getting ready to ditch my mars hydro and shift to COB/QB. Preferably, I'd like to have this done by the time I switch to flower (May 1st). Is it reasonable to expect QB's to be shipping by then? @robincnn, I know you mentioned first week of may, but is that for component arrival or actually ready to ship?

Wonder if I should just go ahead and start a Citizen COB build?

@robincnn - On the topic of product demand forecasting, the nice thing here is you could do a pre-order twice to gauge market demand, then use regression to adjust your supply accordingly. Happy to discuss more. This is basically my day job.

how many QBs? what drivers? series or parallel.

Wider tent has 3 QB with Hlg-320h ... I changed to this from original 3 piece 50w drivers
( mars conversion ) .... Which by the way were super easy to get the panels up and running.

My Batwing build is the one with these GSG plants. There so many options with drivers its actually easier ( to me ) to fab up a system than with cobs. Pick a spectrum of your choice and run passive heatsinks all day long. Plus these are so damn light in weight.

Simple upgrading by swaping Slate 1 for Slate 2 more higher powered rigs. Absolutely hands down the easiest DIY horticulture light system around.

3000k spec has comparable performance as cree 3500k spec.
4000k will have more blue and is another great spec.

( 3x3 tent )
2nd Rig is a 4 QB build with COBS. .... Citizen cobs are also from HLG.
3000k Quantums with 3500k cobs (2).

Drivers :
HLG 185h 1400 b with dimmer pot ( quantums ) 250 watts
HLG 120h 1400 b with dimmer pot ( cobs ) 150 watts ( max ) open dim

Around 400 watts give or take ...

I plan to up the drivers to higher power later but these are working well . And is ridiculously easy ........
All i have to do is swap heatsinks for Slate 2 designs add a higher power driver
like an HLG 320h and Maybe even the COB driver too.
Then i would have 4 slate 1 heatsinks just screaming for boards for another build using the drivers i just changed !!!!!

HLG has superior customer service and constantly shoot emails to keep customers updated. They are extremely fast shipping .... Which is better than ANY manufacturer i have ever bought from . Look thru the pages in this thread. Maybe start with a 2 board setup ... There are so great looking grows from just two ! Like @ChaosHunter .

Try to be patient with supply ... They are working very hard to get these out.
It's the hot ticket around here lately ......... And rightly so.

"One Light to rule them all"............lol I don't see the need to have three or even two different lights in different temps. I keep everything the same, that way, something goes tits up and I've got a spare I can plug in anywhere. I've never seen enough difference in color temp performance above 3000k to make it worth it. I've been vegging under 3500k Citi 1812 cobs and my plants look great and internodes are kept tight by running the light as close as I can without burning the plants. Just begun using my QB's so we'll see if the work as i expect them to, and I've no doubt they will.

After @Growmau5 and green jeans tech talk yesterday, I got to thinking I'd like to add some photo reds to my rig. Probably cree XPEPHR-L1-0000-00901. Should be an easy string to add.

Pink it and shrink it baby. ;)

The question is, how many watts? Growmau mentioned no more than 10%, which for me would be in the 35w range, but that is close to 20 chips (~2.5 v at 700 ma). I'm thinking I don't need anywhere near that amount for a 3x3 space.

Thoughts on the watts of photo reds to add for that pinkish touch?

i think somewhere around 10% total draw in 660nm was mentioned, possibly 5% far red too? im thinking solderless bars...

I really didn't want to crash this fine thread, but all the people crying about board availability are just bugging the hell out of me. As nice as it is, the QB board is not magical, and there are many similar alternatives that are very effective for our purpose and actually cost less money. It's fine if you want to wait in line for a product that you could buy somewhere else for cheaper (a very similar alternative), but moaning about it is kinda taking the piss.

cool. got a link to S6 bin? cause that what people want and theres nothing wrong with that
 
What driver would you guys recommend for 16 qb304 rig over a two 4x8 tray? 4 qb304 on 1 driver or 2 driver? This is going into a 10x10 tent

I'm planning on using these with an lpc -xx-700. http://www.rapidled.com/solderless-cree-xp-e-photo-red-660nm-led/

You might be able to add these far red's as well on the same driver, just check the specs and number of led's to make sure you don't over drive them (max fv of 2.5v): http://www.rapidled.com/solderless-cree-xp-e-far-red-led/

Yes and here is one that isn't a QB..i have heatsinks/frames on the way too..that will hold 1, 2 and three units as well as

connector bars that join 2 two panels and two three panel boards to make larger grow machines

then of cpurse there are the 54 v 1170mmsx22mmx 2mm aluminumstrips with 561c s6

yes i can get the new chips right now because my factory guy is connected

after that will be 561 cs6 panels that retrofit Mars panels..

just wish i could advertise here...[canadian]

The QB guys really screwed up on this. They needed to get product fast and move it out before others started making better/cheaper similar boards. You snooze you lose. Nobody's gonna sit around for a month or two waiting for stuff to get in stock when it's fairly common components. Guess they just had a crappy supplier.

Sorry to hear you are unable to come up with your own ideas regarding boards and heatsinks. absolute shame how you just copied our design and throw it right in this thread. You mind keeping show off your duplicate trash some place else.

It is a shame. We worked on this design over a year looking for ultimate driver compatibility ease of DIY and efficiency...... Anyone that says next light needs to look back to when they introduced there lights. We where a few months in when they released them and we stayed with it because we where designing around optics and ease of use. The use of 561C in at least the DIY community is on us. Furthermore no one would've looked twice at these diodes as the community as a whole was definitely Cob struck and rightfully so. I fully expected other designs with 561C coming into play once we released the numbers but I didn't think someone would 100% copy our design by actually sending off our product to be copied...... You live and you learn. These where designed for our HLG 550 and HLG 550 Pro. It was my idea to offer them up to the community where we got started to give back. Oh well lol.
