Do calcium and magnesium even matter?

Im using general hyrdoponics with clay pellets. Soft tap water - 70 ppm. Do I even need cal mag? Some people use 5 ml / gallon. Some use none at all. Do these nutrients even matter? Anyone got the ppms they use of calcium and magnesium through out a grow?

Both are very important in marijuana grows. It really depends on your strain, medium, fertilizer and additives. I use r.o. water, and add 10ml with every gallon for best health of plants.

Yes, don't remove them or consider any of the trace 'unneeded'... you won't like the result.

No Cal/mag is not important. Neither is nitrogen or phosphorous really. Just run straight water and you'll be great bro. That's what everybody does.

Thanks scrotie, thats what im looking for. 10 ml / gallon? I think ur trying to kill my plants SSHZ. Calcium and magnesium compete with potassium uptake. Some one give me a good answer please!!! i.e. - 100 ppm magnesium in bloom, 80 ppm magnesium in veg, 150 ppm calcium in veg, give me numbers...

You got the names backward.. SSHZ gave you the correct info.. and wasn't the one trying to kill your plants.

In hydro cal-mag is used the last 60% of the flowering phase, after they stretch. The plants increase magnesium uptake when the buds are filling out and finishing. It isn't needed during vegetative stage.

Unless your plant strains really require it in higher doses, you should be fine just using the GH 3 part.

you dont need cal mag if your using tap water but they better to add in most nutrient programs. if using RO water then you probably really want to add cal mag. less is better than more though in almost all cases.

What im looking for is example - "in the first two weeks i run 150 ppm calcium, 80 ppm magnesium. In veg i run 100 calcium, 60 magnesium. In transition i run 100 calcium, 100 magnesium. In bloom i run 150 of both."

I'd wait for the plant to show symptoms as some setups will have cal/mag in the mix somewhere as trace.. and as pizza mentioned, some types of city water have a light cal/mag inate as well. You're free to hit it with whatever you want, but why over-complicate it if the plant isn't showing signs of deficiency?

1-1 is pretty high ratio on the mag side usually not more than 2-1 cal mag recommended

Yes Cal/Mag is very important. Some strains require twice as much as others. OG Kush and other strains from the Chemdog family really suck up all the Cal/Mag.

How do you know if you need more C/M? You'll notice dead spots forming between the veins on the leaves. Once it's dead, it's gone and won't come back. How much should you use? Follow the manufactures recommendations and if you run a kush type strain up it 50%.

Good luck everyone!

Whats up how is the yield on the qush whats the hiest you heard of so far .i do hydro dwc and gh nutes is it a good feeder i got 4 b98 phenos i think there 3 weeks in and are not streching at all I GO ALL THE WAY WITH 1400 PPM

Doubtful you're running 1400 ppm of cal/mag.. but welcome to the forums.

Very accurate with the chemdawg part. I'm running both right now and the chemdawg has given me mg def problems throughout the whole grow. The og has been fine, but I have a weird pheno imo
