Do I have my bases covered?

Hi guys,

After doing a lot of reading in the last few weeks, especially the last few days this is the beginning of my list for starting my first grow for myself. I will be using a 4x4 tent in my basement. In the tent, after reading numerous reviews I will be using the ipower 600watt hps/mh light. Here is a link to it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/160722062856?lpid=82. Looks like it should do the job in a tent eh? I am going through Attitude seedbank. I have not added in the various other items I will need, venting, filter, etc. I will be starting in the next 60-90 days or so. Once I piece it all together. Im not looking to grow the best weed in the world, just a few ounces per plant will make me happy, and of course quality! Going to be growing mostly indica dominant strains, for pain management. What happens when I grow to much to smoke? I plan on keeping 6 in flower most of the year, how much can I keep all dried and cut until I need to get rid of it, I don't want to be wasteful? Any and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

if u cure it right it will keep for very long time in jars or fridge, and of course you can always send me what you cant smoke :eyesmoke:

lol, but is there a law saying how much I can have after harvesting? Its just me and my husband. Only I am a patient.

I guess you'll be switching them to flower when they are still pretty small, eh? A 4x4 tent is not very big for six plants in late flower. Also, you will need to look ahead a bit if you plan a perpetual grow. Ultimately you will need three areas: cloning, veg and flower. Cloning and veg can share space of course but it will need to be separate from flower due to light schedules.

Thanks Ez and Tet. Good to know. I didn't know 4x4 was small for 6 flowering plants, from what I have read this seemed appropriate. Maybe ill look into the next size up. I have plenty of space.

If u grow them small u can get away with it. but ur gonna want to throw them into flower before they are a foot tall. You can run your current set up for a cycle or two and if it's something u like and ur successful get a bigger tent for flower and use the small one to veg.

Measure the height of your ceiling. Make sure you dont get a tent to tall. I agree with tet. I started out growing in a 4x4, and found it a bit cramped. A 6.5x6.5x6.5 was more suitable space for me in flower. The 4x4 tent is a great size for 6 vegging plants. But in reality, its all going to come down to how much you wanna throw down for cash. You can always get bigger!

im looking on the net and the numbers for sizes on the grow tents are screwing with me. What is the next size up from a 4x4. Is it a 5x5? Sorry if this sounds stupid, we have all been here im sure. I need to flower 6 plants at a time. A veg room will come a little later with more money. Right now im vegging and flowering in this tent.

What are you looking at for a price on the 4x4? A really good sized tent is about $260 at HTG. It's about 5x8 and 6'6" tall. If you have plenty of room and can afford this one, I highly recommend it. You will find it extremely versatile, with duct ports and access everywhere. I have one in addition to my two permanent grow rooms and I use it for several purposes.

I have been able to get around 16-24 oz off 6 plants in a 4x4 tent with a 600 watt light. If you don't know what you are doing, you will probably be closer to half that yield.

Thanks for the advice Tet. My issue is I cant go any higher right now then a 600w hps. Will this work in a tent that big? Right now im just trying to keep it simple and added a stronger light or having to buy another 600 and deal with the heat is not in my budget.

Understood. Still, if I were you I would at least go with the larger tent even if you can only use one light for now. Eventually maybe you'll get a second light for it. The inside is reflective at least. Or, go with the small tent and just switch them to flower when they are still pretty small.
If things go well for you and you stick with it I predict that the small tent will eventually be your cloning/veg tent and you will need a larger space for the big girls.

Or I might just flower 4 at a time. I may start with an autoflwer strain, just to get a feel for it. My main concern is smell in the basement.

Smell should not be an issue until well into flower. The tent will help a lot with that. Heat then becomes your concern. What I do with both my permanent rooms and my tent is use a carbon filter, then flexible duct to the light(s), then to the blower and out of the room/tent. This has the dual function of cleansing the air and cooling. Requires a sealed hood, of course.

Yeah im going to do the whole setup with the ductwork and carbon filter, and a small exaust fan and an intake fan. My 600 watt hps/mh is aircooled tube so that should keeps things around right temp, I hope. Ill have a temp and humidity gauge in the tent. I have a large basement window, should I have my exaust duct going towards that window? That's where I want it to go out, Its just cold here now and I cant imagine keeping that window open in the winter, what is a common method to use if I have this issue? I am just worried about my parent, they live next door and don't know I use medical marijuana, even though I am in my 30s! If I have to tell them I will, but I would like to keep things as quiet as possible.

Is there a dryer vent down there anyplace? My duct work that runs outside joins that with a wye. I put a backdraft preventer on the dryer side to keep it going back in the house through that.

IMO I would just run 4 plants to start out with. If your gonna run hydro I would only run one on your first grow. I tried to run 4 plants growing hydroponicly using the dwc method and it was a lot to keep up with. I had nute burn, PH probs, res temp prob and all led to lots of stress. Your best bet would be to run a feminised strain, just 4 plants, and see how you do. If you want a more staggered grow you could start 2 and a month later start 2 more so you harvest 2 plants a month or something along those lines lol. I have 16 plants in an aeroponic setup and 2 in dwc and it's a bit much at times.

No, Overgrown, Im just running soil. Im going to use the highest grade local organic soil and just some dyna grow, and dyna bloom. Nice and simple my first time. Tet, no, I do not have a dryer vent down there, my washer and dryer are in my bathroom up stairs and vent out of it. Its a raised ranched house. The basement is great in that it is open and empty, but only has 4 windows on each corner.
