in comes in 2 boxes. 1 is the powerpack or ballast. the other is the refractor which probly is not good for growing.

here is the box the ballast comes in. notice its 277 volt. if the ballast is 277 volt only thats the only voltage you can use, no way to convert it.

so my bro calls me up and says i just ordered a light but after its shipped already the seller emails him and says its 277 volt only. they cant sell them cause no one wants them. i told him the light is no good and the seller says he can send it back at no charge. so we open the box and heres a pic of the light. and its a multi tap ballast.

heres a pic of the plug change to make it 110 volt.

and here is a pic of it to be remote.

im going to try and do a thread on making this remote. there is a couple things to take into consideration when you disassemble. if anyone is interested on how its done, feel free to ask.

it is hard to do the basic rewireing of the ballast and make it remote?
No and there are examples with pictures on here somewhere.

Basically you unscrew the bulb socket and you'll see it's connected with two wires. All you do is clip them or disconnect them where they connect inside and make those two wires longer by using a piece of an extension cord or whatever with wire nuts to make it remote.

Not sure if I made that sound as easy as it is.

I forgot to mention I was looking at buying a couple of these recently also, and this buy it now listing for $25ea is who I was going to buy from . I contacted this seller and asked about shipping without the reflector and bulb and he quoted me $15. I know he doesn't have high feedback but I wasn't worried about it after talking to him.

Decent deal...
those are used. but may be good.
these are brand new lights. after the one ends on thurday morning about 10 minutes later the next light comes up. buy it now for 20.
if you do a search for cresent light fixture you will find the next one listed.

Oh, sweet, brand new... Ok.

Do you know if you can just pm him and arrange to buy one directly rather than waiting for auctions? I mean if he's doing buy it now's anyway, maybe he'll just throw up more as people ask for them.

I was just curious for others actually. I was in the market to buy a couple of them, but even this cheap I just can't afford it ATM.

this fixture is a little tougher to make remote because you have to open the ballast up to get to the screws that hold the lampholder on. its not hard but if your not good at this kinda thing then gets some help before attempting yourself.
ive got it upside down on a bucket so it stays there. you gotta be carefull taking off the cover becaus its what really holds the transformer in place. you dont want the transformer to shift around while doing this.

I would love a tutorial on how to hook up this beast. I got one that came on this morning. I have remote ballasted the 150 e-cono's with ease and am good with my hands. How tricky is it to change over to the 110V feed? Is it the standard setup of magnetic ballast, ignitor, socket? Does it have a capacitor anywhere in between? Thanks for the previous pics but if you would elaborate more on the process I would eat that right up! Thanks!

No scam at all. I would pay this much for a 400W used, not to mention this is brand new. A ballast is a ballast, to a certain extent of course. It's no digital Lumatek , but I'm also not paying over a hundred dollars. There are many valuable discussions on this board about the "benefits" of a digital ballast any way. This is the perfect piece for someone who wants to bump up their game for very cheap. I've now got a brand new 400W HPS with 3 brand new bulbs for a whopping total of under $60. SCORE
