i have a 400w mh ballast and and 400w mh bulb, i dont have enough money for a conversion bulb, do you think i can just by a 400w hps bulb or 250w and use iti have herd people say that they just bough a hps bulb and worked

I believe they operate on the same type of ballast so it should be O.K., but I would wait for some more opinions because I'm no expert.

Don't use the bulb unless it is meant for a MH sytem and matches the strength of the ballast. You can still flower with a MH, I hear the nugs are more frosty but not as big...

Really some plants aren't genetically wired to have huge buds anyhow so just go with what you have depending on what you are trying to grow the extra frost versus size might be a non issue.But don't go putting round pegs in square holes it is just a recipe for disaster.

ehhh, your probably right, besided doesnt mh lamps have the red spectrum in it too? like a little bit? also i can just hook up some cfls with the red spectrum to get a little more red. thanks everyone.

Don't even think about using mismatched bulbs and ballasts!! This is asking for trouble. This is an electrical.fire ,and explosion hazard. Only use bulbs that are specifically marked as usable with your ballast. This is serious stuff, and carelessness kills.
