Does $216/month sound right for a 400w?

I used the spreadsheet formula in the power consumption sticky and it came out to $216 a month for 1 400w light. Does this sound right. I figured it for 12 hrs on at $0.05/kwh from my bill. If it is this much than how is it worth it for me? $650 just for power for 3 months with 3 plants. Plus the soil cost, ferts, labor. Say I get 3-5 ozs all together. Not much profit for the risk involved. Or was my math wrong? Plus I just ordered a new 400w hps so if I have both going 1 will be on for 24 hrs, that would double it to $1300 plus $650 for the other light staying on for 12hrs. Help me out if you can please.

if i did the math right, its

(400watts / 1000kwh) * .056kwh rate * 12hours on * 30days in month = 8.06400$

i cant remember the formula, but im prettu sure thats it.

my 400 watt at 12/12 raised it 20 a month.
You might have plugged in the numbers wrong throwing it off of a decimal place.

I am horrible with formulas since high school.:joint: My wife keeps telling me the bill has gone up a shitload since my hobby started so I need evidence to win this one. Please do the math for me and help me win one for all of us.

yea a general rule of thumb is every 1000w HPS raises the power roughly 50 bucks per month so u would need alot of juice to throw up signals

thanks for the reassurance. Now that I have this info, I'm gonna tell my wife, "listen bitch, shut up about the electric bill and cook me dinner". Not really though. I'll think it though.

i push about 10 amps in the winter and almost 16 in the summer. It's less than 100 bucks for juice in the summer. Everything in my house is electric. My hot water heater has two coils, one is 3500 and the other 4500 watts. Not to mention all the electric baseboard heaters, Stove ect... My electric bill is usally around 230 and i hit an all time high this winter of 434.00 due to the cold winter here.

a 400w system should only pull like 10$-20$ depending on light cycle.

a computer is 500w... most people just leave those on all the time, that would be like 400$ just to run a desktop each month... i dont think so.
