does a 150w HPS fit in 125w CFL socket?

i have a sunleaves lightwave CF reflector that i think has a mogul socket? (looks like ordinary screw-in except larger) i want to just buy an hps bulb and not the whole hood, ballast etc. can i do this?

mine looks like this, ive seen a picture of this same reflector but with hps, do i need a ballast or something also?

You WILL need a ballast. If you are interested in selling that hood for a good price though, I'm interested.

or i different question, can i use like a 400/600 watt ballast for a 150w bulb? thinking about the future when i upgrade to a big boy

Nope can't run a 150 HPS bulb with a ballast for anything bigger. In fact it requires a special ballast to run a 1000 w MH that also handles a 1000 w HPS bulb (veg to flowering swap). I've used a standard 150 HPS security style light available at a builders supply or larger chain hardware stores. They run about $100 for the whole Taco. I just strip the ballast guts and socket out of the fixture and mount everything to fit the tent or grow box. In a small space, appx. 18" X 18", the whole box acts as the hood. And I just mount the socket to an adjustable piece of 3/16" material that's just slightly smaller than the dims. inside the box. BTW: Run the 150 HPS bulb in the vertical possition and kept about 9"-10" above the plant(s).
