Does a little orange spot matter? read on

Hello. My seedling is 10 days old today.
I apologize that I do not have a picture this time. I will get a picture tomorrow while watering. It has grown considerably since I posted that photo of it pretty much right after it had popped up out of the soil. But I just checked the closet (temp is staying at 86.1 consistently) - cfl is 1.4 inches from leaves, one of the original blade leaves has a tiny orange spot on it!
I do not fert of course too young.
So it's not fert burn. All I do is water the top of the soil and not to close to the stem so no droop its doing fine in a 6 gallon pot. Do you think I am under-watering or over-watering? Or is my plant two young to have the light that close. Do i need to worry?? Is there anything i can do? Thanks.

Check out my plant here 14 pics and a brief description:

Am I over watering or under watering??

I need to know before I water it today.

how tiny is tiny? are you being a perfectionist and looking at a pixel? hehe, i'm new at the growing scene, but it sounds like you could have too much light

You really need to post pics to get good help on problems -- there are so many things "spots" can come from...

A pic would def help. Btw if u post like 3 times in a row it looks like people are already helping u so noone is gonna come and look. With the seedling being so young 125w an inch away might be a little close id try 2 or 3 inches away till it gets a little bigger. As far as the little spot goes i wouldnt worry just yet. seedlings often have tiny imperfections.. If there are alot of them and it gets worse then u might have a problem. As far as watering goes just keep the soil so it is always moist for the first couple weeks. Dont let it get it get bone dry if u can help it.

oh and your temp is running high. Aim for 70-80 degrees with lights on and around 60 to 65 when lights are off

The first pic is my grow closet

The second pic is my seedling when it was a day or 2 old

Finally the Third pic is my plant at 11 days old. Sorry I couldn't get a better shot, the cameras kind of tricky. Its got 3 orange spots now at the time of this picture. Theyre pretty small. What I got out of everyones posts is sometimes I am letting the soil get 2 dry at times and I should maybe back up the light just a little. Well thanks everyone who helped me and I am open to more. I think I'll have to go with Verilux 6400k 24" tubes if this 86.9 just wont cut it.

Also would it help to file the top of my closet door down? give it say 1/2 inch for heat to escape through? And maybe somehow that would also make my fan more efficient.

Im pretty sure with a few adjustments you can bring that tem down without switching your lights. Instead of filing your door why dont u go to home depot and get a bathroom exaust vent. It has the fn all built in and a nice cover. Alot of them have a regular plug that fits a normal 120 outlet too. U could also aim that fan up a little so it kinda pushes the hot air from your light up towards the ceeling. The seedling looks pretty good to me, although i cant see the spots u mentioned. :joint:

When I switch from 24/7 to 12/12 its going to be the heat of the summer! So when the lights are out we could do 75 degrees f sometimes, but sometimes its as high as 80 degrees f.
Any Input?:peace:

75-80 is still a workable range but u say thats with lights off? How hot has it been getting with wour lights on? Mary Jane will still grow in higher temps but the rate of growth and the overall plant health will decrease if it gets too hot. Ive had stuff grow outside in 100+ deree temps but it is very high maintenence... Id say as lon as you can be sure the temp wont exceed 90 youl still be growing... You should definitely look into an exaust system..... Or just turn on the ac in your house and bee smooth sailin:bigjoint:
