Does flowering growth spurt depend on veg time?

A plant can increase 2 or 3 times in size during the flowering period. But does that multiple depend on the amount of time the flower stays in veg? For instance, imagine the genetics is the same, and you keep the strain in veg for 5 weeks. After you switch it to flower for 10 weeks and it doubles in size. But if you kept it in veg for only 3 weeks and in flower for 6 weeks, do you think it will still double in size?

In general without including all the environmental/genetics, vegging is mostly about cultivating root mass. The bigger the root mass the bigger the plant can stretch and better support weight.

you can stunt the height with warmer dark cycle temps if that is your concern.

great question. I dont always always allow it but if my vegging plant has reached sexual maturity before flowering she experiences less stretching everytime/strain I grow
I can only say from experience that I’ve always let them sex before flower. Albeit this is only my second but even they only doubled in sized. And they were 80% sativa.

My 90% Sativas 2 weeks 3 days in are just starting to slow down now I think. They were 9 weeks before flip.

dont know if I'd say mostly about root mass. I'd say root mass is incidental while I cultivate new meristems/budding sites. I've seen trees in small cups of roots in hydro for instance.

Thanks. I'm wondering if the plant has something like a window of time when it will grow the most after switching to flowering. If you switch to flower before or after that window the plant has a lower capacity to stretch, which is consistent with your experience. I'm a professor at Universite Laval doing research related to how to optimize growing facilities. How much the plant grows between veg and flower will impact how to best allocate space between veg and flower rooms. I know Im not telling you anything you don't already know. So Im just trying to understand that relationship as best I can. Thanks again.

So are you saying that how much the plant stretches is mostly about how much the root mass develops during vegging. In other words, holding everything else (light, genetics, temp...) fixed, if I do something that increases root mass the plant will respond by stretching more after switching to flower (because it can handle more weight, or something to that effect.)? Thanks.

Would you grow taller if your child hood was longer..?

Not a chance

veg and flower are to distinct periods in a plants life

the longer the veg = the bigger the plant

if you want a stretched plant, longer internodes

simply use a warm red/ 2700 kelvin bulb in veg even less light

good luck

Well just to confirm I’m even more positive this is the case.

My ladies have slowed right down now and haven’t grown much in the past 2 days despite fresh watering.

They just over doubled in height and these are 90% sativa’s.

Although I did top and lst them. Still, these things I was planning on hitting the roof! Lol
