Does Rain Lower the Potency of Marijuana?

I am pretty sure it does not. At least in veg. In flower you may want to go shake the water off the plant to make sure it won't mold.

Your right, rain doesn't hurt pot plants while their vegging, but late in flower, it can cause mold and mildew, and lower quality period. But hard, continuous rain will keep em' from producing properly, that's another reason Norcal is a great place to grow, cause it doesn't rain all summer for the most part.

sure...it would be silly to deny it...even stiff winds can knock off the good bits
...so do growers checking for balls, bugs, and general health...

the plant just makes more to replace them though...eventually
...won't make more if they never got knocked off to begin with either...

basically it should still produces the same quality if it has a watchful grower and harvested with the particular plants recent history in mind
don't/can't give it time to replace what it lost in the beating?
get crappy harvests

Yeah rain is only a problem in the fall when your flower clusters are growing together. Water gets trapped inside and makes a nice home for mold. I gently shake every branch in the fall each morning to shed excess dew, and after each rain.

During veg, constant rain and overcast skies will block some of your light...but even an overcast day produces more lumens than any growlight can...MH HPS and CFL together cant match the spectrum or lumens of the sun, even on a cloudy day.

I gotta go with tristyhawk.

I agree about the mold but I just cant see rain knocking off trichome heads.

Yeah I don't think the rain washes a significant amount of trichomes away. Like some of the other guys said, mold will be a bigger problem with late season rain.

Ya'll obviously don't live in oregon, rain will beat the shit out of your plants knocking a fuck load of the sticky off and its a big problem when it never stops raining or rains everyday, they're constantly overwattered and never get sunlight.

Rain can certainly cause problems. Being constantly overwatered and lack of sunlike like you said are two of them. Just plain physical damage caused by storms is another. I think the OP was wondering more about losing resin. Maybe it does, I don't know for sure, but I have to say some of the best weed I ever smoked was outdoor. It can even have a better smell and taste than plants grown indoors too IMO.

Yeah, you're right I don't live in Oregon.
No shit, well I guess you get enough water and it can happen then.
Hell look at the Grand Canyon.

I understand that a soft rain will not harm trichomes, but in my area we get heavy heavy rains. The rain often breaks leaves from the force. Several inches of rain isn't unheard of.
I think I will put a sheet of plastic over my cage and remove it when the rain is gone. My first grow and I'm pretty nervous.

well, i'm sure it's possible that rain could knock off or damage some of the trics, the trics themselves are not soluble in water so there is no fear of rain leaching out your potency.

the only issue i could forsee would be the same concept of squeezing your buds it destroys your trichs on the spot of contact when you have touched/squeezed during development ... if the rain is as strong as you say thats the only concern like you said you can make a roof for it but make sure you make 1 corner lower than the rest so the runoff flows properly off and doesn't collapse onto the plant good luck :leaf:

it does lower potency by beating the resin that contain thc off of the plant.
I just read this a bunch of times on different pages... have to say... it depends on the hardness of the rain and the temperature. if it is colder the trchomes are more snappy. if it's warm the triches are more bendy. also it depends on windspeed. straight down rain is obviously less violent than splash against window rain.

Trichomes are an anti pest / anti fungal so I'd assume rain water that would threaten final growth and spur trichome production... this is all conjecture mind you.
