Hey guys,

First grow, first post.

I'm wondering if I should chop this girl or wait a week. The strain is grapefruit; all organic outdoor grow in socal. I'm just really struggling at the moment with determining ripeness. The buds a swollen, a large amount of hairs are brown and turned in. I have a 30x loupe and a 60-100x scope, but I don't see that much of a glaring difference between milky and clear, and were wondering if these buds will still fatten or if they're at peak potency. Some of the sugar leaves trichomes have ambered but not too much in the buds, there are a few spots of amber forming here and there but they vary from bud to bud, and I'm not talking about top buds vs bottom, I mean right next to each other on the same cola. Let me know what you guys think! Its appreciated! Namaste! Grow well!

Added bonus: The last 4 photos are of my sour diesel, which I'm pretty confident I'm going to wait a bit for, it has no amber that I saw, looks a bit glassy and it says the strain should finish early November in my area. Let me know what you think!

P.S.S. the white powder on my fan blades is not mold, its diatomaceous earth, and it works great as an organic pesticide if "puffed" onto the leaves. Just don't puff it in your lungs or face tehehehe. Thanks again guys!

You have some time left to go.
Close, so check daily.

A cpl of points to consider.

Leaves tell me it wasn't exactly stable. The single leaf sets tell me that.
Looks kinda stressed. Remove to many leaves did we? I mean it looks rather naked for a whole plant.

Remember that the leaves are the food factories of the plant.....Like roots, you don't really remove many.
Granted, some strains do need a bit of a prune but, this is done nearer the end of the budding to allow for a more even ripening...

Bottom line. Your plant has produced some fine buds....It could have been closer to "potential" but quite nice as they are...

Dr. Who, thank you for the info an pointers! Yes I had some stress due to early budding than revegging, they were indoor clones given to me, they flowered a bit (about 2 weeks) than revegged than flowered again in Sept, so that caused a bit. Also 110 degree temps in July. And yes I did do a lot of defoliation, but to be fair I just did it this week to allow more light in, alot of leaves died off as well, I will certainly pay attention to this in the future, especially the single leaf sets.

Now just to clarify, do you think both plants are close? Or just the grape fruit (the first 5 pics)?

Again thank you! Namaste

Also here is a full plant shot of the grapefruit. This site was telling me it was an inappropriate image or spam when I tried to load it to the post, for anyone who wants to see the plant as a whole.

They look about the same from here. Hard to really judge unless I am there to look close...Pic's never do a "finish" justice.

Um, try dropping your P level a bit in bloom next time, OR don't really start the "bloom" nutrients till week 3 and only at half strength then go full on at week 4.

ALWAYS stop any additional K or Mg use at the start of the bulking phase....They reduce THC production..

Some strains don't amber much or even don't amber at all. The new mega strong strains are a good example of that.

Learning what "done" really is. Is a road you take on your own... Try longer then you would think sometime....You'll understand that when you've tried it.

Good luck!

Thanks again! I plan on harvesting this plant in sections over time to better grasp that concept. Seems like something to be learned hands on like you're saying.

In reference to the P and Mag levels, I should reiterate that I don't use nutrients in my water, I use dry amendments only as well as compost, castings and other things. I top dressed every few weeks until about week 5 or so, as well as a cedar mulching to protect microbes, worms etc. I also did a few feedings with buffalo manure compost tea up until week 5 than switched to watering with organic blue agave for a carb to finish.

I'm curious as to what makes you say to drop the P and Mag? What visual evidence triggered that? Curious so I can learn. Thanks!

The P is why you may have gotten an early leaf yellowing/die off.....Betcha did, and that's from just how the present leaf structure looks....all those years of looking at/growing our chosen plant, makes the call kinda easy...BUT..

In reality. I suggested the lowering of the P and Mg as a simple information thing... I supplement Mg and K sulfate for increased trich and terp production..... I use organic sourced products and add them to tea brews for that in my organic runs. I always stop them right at the bulking phase...about 3+ weeks from my normal harvest periods.

The fact that they reduce THC counts is kinda old news...Nutrient makers don't tell you that stuff.....

Otherwise I make my own liquid supplements for my "synthetic" run plants. I only use Botanicare KIND line for those.

Glad your into trying! Thing is, leave some of the uppers or mains too..... Don't have too but, you might like what you find out....I know you will...
