now weather they allow him to do it is another thing altogether..

Newly elected Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford says he promises a government that won't meddle with people's lives when it comes to taxes, sex education and cannabis — and that he's not in favour of government-run pot stores.

"I don't believe in the government sticking their hands in our lives all the time. I believe in letting the market dictate," he told CBC Radio's Ottawa Morning Tuesday.

The former city councillor won the PC leadership race Saturday following a tumultuous convention sparked by the resignation of Patrick Brown, who left the party earlier this year amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

In his first week of campaigning, Ford promised to repeal Ontario's sex-ed curriculum, cut the carbon tax and end provincial taxes for people making $30,000 or less a year.

Here's more of what he told Ottawa Morning host Robyn Bresnahan Tuesday.

'I believe in letting the market dictate'
Q: What are your plans for regulation and enforcement for marijuana when it becomes legal? Would you privatize pot stores?

A: We're going down a path that no one really knows. I have been open to a fair market and letting the markets dictate. I don't like the government controlling anything no matter what it is.... I'm open to a free market and I'm going to consult with our caucus.... I don't believe in the government sticking their hands in our lives all the time. I believe in letting the market dictate.

Q: Will you be cutting public service jobs?

A: No, I won't be.... I don't believe in the word cuts, I believe in efficiencies. We drive efficiencies in the private sector, we will start driving efficiencies in the public sector as well.

Carbon pricing 'a job killer'
Q: You've said no to any kind of carbon pricing. How will you make up for the billions of dollars of revenue from the tax?

A: It's only crucial if you want to make it crucial. It's a job killer and an absolutely terrible tax. It puts us on an unfair playing field.... You are trying to complete against other jurisdictions in the world that don't have a carbon tax and all it does is drive up cost of all goods. It's hurting everyone in Canada.... People don't want to be punished because of this carbon tax and there are other ways out there of being environmentally friendly.

Q: You've said recently you plan to repeal Ontario's sex-ed curriculum. In the past, you talked about reviewing it. Which is it?

A: We are going to repeal it because this is an issue of respecting parents. Parents weren't consulted and they should have been. What happens to our own kids is our business. It's not about the liberal ideology that's being breathed down our backs from Kathleen Wynne.

'I don't give 2 hoots about Donald Trump'
Q: Are you Ontario's version of Donald Trump?

A: No.... But look what is happening south of the border; we have trillions of dollars going into that country because they dropped the tax rate. Unemployment is [the] lowest in 20 years and manufacturing jobs are coming back.... I'm Doug Ford and we're going to turn this province around. I'm focused on Kathleen Wynne and I don't give two hoots about Donald Trump. I'm focused on Ontario.

Q: You've promised to freeze Ontario's minimum wage at $14 an hour. But would you roll back the hike to minimum wage?

A: No, I wouldn't. It's not that I like it. Sixty-thousand people have been laid off so far and it's going to continue.... When the minimum wage goes up the government is gouging you — there's a little hypocrisy happening there. What I plan on doing is anyone making $30,000 or less will be paying zero tax and because of that they are going to have $160 extra every month in their pockets. I'm going to reduce taxes and put money into the pockets of the most vulnerable.

Can just imagine the attacks lol

I guess we'll just have to see what "they" come up with. We all know what he wants and what we all want...but it's "the other" I worry about.

No one likes to see their money walk away from them...
A free market will see that happen to LP's

I would hope people are tired of Wynne and we can elect someone new. Im tired of our province fucking over its residents at every opportunity.

The problem with Ontario, is the unions are beholden to the liberal party, ESPECIALLY the teachers union which is so huge it owns BCE (Bell) now. So while I think everyone hates the witch, I don't have a huge amount of hope. The last platform the cons had (8% provicial tax for corporations - the lowest in North America at the time) would have brought back huge amounts of business and manufacturing jobs, but then the cons had to open their mouths and say they were going to let 100,000 government jobs go. Queue videos of hospitals being blown up. That cost them the election. So as much as I hate to say it, the cons have to get the unions on board to win the election imo.

Remember Doug comes with many caveats...most notably, he was a proud and very staunch supporter of Stephen Harper. Think about that for a min before casting your vote!

While I liked the statement and totally agree about having a free market. This was strictly one of many subjects he'll try to use to build an election platform. It's just politics and I don't trust him nor the cons, just another politician out to make a name for himself imo.

What I would like to see is some real choice when the election starts but not holding my breath. It's depressing going back & forth between two-party imbeciles who continue to screw up this province regardless of their political flavour.

Ya I agree with you about JT Federal Liberals messed that one up, you also must agree Kathleen Wynne Liberals messed it up even more. Hopefully it can be fixed before more damage is done to Ontario

I don't want the Provincial Liberals in power any more. I believe my view will be the majority come election.
Cheers

Even though I don’t have a horse in this race, I spent the last couple hours researching Mr Ford. I’ve come to the conclusion that he is a train wreck waiting to happen. Very Tumpesqe. This guy is a stanch con, backed by our fav. Harper. How soon you forget what the cons and Harper represented. Mr Ford in no different, IMO. I wish you guys luck as there is no clear winner, I hate to see him get votes over his cannabis stance alone, as there is much more than meets the eyes of this thug. Make Ontario Great Again!....lol
