Drainage problem

I planned on having a container garden this year but I went a little crazy and ended up planting wayyy too much to keep everything indoors. So yesterday I went out and dug myself a little garden. I live on the coast, so I wasn't surprised to find that the soil in my yard isn't soil at all... it's sand! Drainage is excellent, but that's where the problem comes from. Is there anything I can do (besides bringing in a whole truckload of dirt) to help the ground around my little babies hold water better? I went out and checked them today and it was so dry that about 50% of what I planted started wilting. Ick.

Add some peat moss or vermiculite to your soil, they both hold water. Also mulch around the base of your plants help.
