Drawback of this carbon filter setup

Hi all. Was wondering what the drawbacks might be of having carbon filter setup like this picture ? Will it get rid of smell ? Will it help air circulation? Will it effect the filter and fan negativiley ? Thank you for the time. And thoughts

I was told it still works that way it just shortens the life of your filter.

With that config....
Air leaving the exhaust should be odor free.
However, inside the grow room will be stinky.

A fan/filter inside the tent.....scrubbing.....is what keeps the grow room odor free, and filters out particulate, lint, dust, hair and other crap from ending up in our weed.

Also this is also how I have it set up in a tent that is 2 feet by 3 feet. I guess I’m just wondering if I should position the filter differently outside of the tent ? Or if I should just re configure the setup and put the filter inside the tent at the top of it with the filter mounted outside the tent connected directly to the filter ... I just don’t know lol

I have the filter and fan outside of the tent this keeps it more silent.

This setup makes it difficult to keep tent temperature in check. Ideally you should avoid exhausting hot air back into the same room as the intake. Moving air is not just for odors.

At the 90 degree angle you lose air/odor. Its more ideal to have your tubing in straight lines from the fan, but it will work how you have it set up. . Also fans work best 6-8 inches from the actual filter depending on the strength of the fan and cfm capability of the filter. For example if your Can Filter is capable of 400 cfm and you have a 400cfm inline fan put it close. If your Filter can is actually weaker than what the fan pulls or blows then you should give it a few feet of distance or get a controller and tone down the fan speed. Also the system is not full proof.
My set up is a can connected to where you have your fan, about 10 feet of tubing to the next can but another fan placed on top of that can sucking the air, so I have two fans two cans. (Filter can>8inch of tubing>fan suction from room to blowing out of room> ten feet of tubing>Fan suction to blowing inside of filter can.

Also longer filter cans work better than short fat ones because of surface area.

Another tip, for best flow rates use smooth walled snap seam galvanized duct for long runs. This will increase efficiency of the system. Seal the seams with either foil tape or duct mastic. For longer runs it is recommended to upsize the duct. Any bends reduce flow and therefore cooling capacity. When a bend is required a long sweeping bend will restrict less than a sharp ninety degree turn.

They do make inline filters so you can have the filter and blower outside the tent with the filter before the blower.

When maximum odor control is required you should combine the filtered cooling exhaust / negative pressure system with a scrubber inside the tent. One can even use an inline ozone generator on the exhaust if you wanna take it that far. A scrubber can be setup so as to take advantage of the airflow circulating air from the bottom of the tent to the top of the tent. while scrubbing it. A good scrubber in the grow and a filter on the exhaust is very effective so long as the fans aren't outrunning the exhaust filter, the scrubber on the other hand can move more air.
