Dryer Box

Hello friends, I decided I wanted to build a dry box. My girls are about 1-5 weeks from being ready and I wanted a place to put them. Here is how I did it.
  1. 42 gallon tub from wally world
  2. A couple of fans I brought off the bay for 10 bucks
  3. Some parts from Lowes, I used a 6 to 4 inch adapter to house my fan. I think it may work a little better. I put the fan inside of the fitting.
  4. I found a carbon filter for 5 bucks on clearance.
It is basically the same box that everyone else builds however mine does not use any glue. I believe in mechanical fasteners. In addition I put a second fan on my box I think it is too much. I didn’t think the one would do such a good job but it is really a horse. It sucks and blows pretty hard. I had an idea that if you pressurize the box it will work better I don’t think I am right. I built the standard DIY carbon filter. Take a look and tell me what you think. Feel free to ask any questions. I will build the racks later.

YEAH, I USE IT FOR ADDED AIR. I HAVE BEEN DRYING MY SENSI STAR QUITE NICELY FOR 3 DAYS NOW. IT IS RAINING HERE SO I TURNED THE OTHER FAN ON TODAY FOR ADDED FLOW. IT IS WORKING GREAT. I PLAN TO DRY IN THE BOX FOR 5 DAYS OR SO THEN CURE....:-P

How is it containing the smell? What type of carbon filter is that? it looks a bit like a bag? Filter bag maybe? Is there any charcoal or activated carbon inside the filter?

It does an ok job of containing the smell. I would use a professional packed carbon filter if smell is a HUGE issue. I have TWO canfan carbon filters running besides the one in my dryer box. There is no carbon on the inside just the activated wrap I brought for 5 bucks. I would not suggest using a homemade filter for odor control. I made this one to minimize the smell. Whatever $$$$ is a small price to pay for freedom......:-P

Great job on the box bro!! I'm gonna build one of these because it looks very easy to build and I want to see how they work but I was under the assumption that dryer boxes dried bud faster than hang drying. If it takes 5 days and smell isn't an isuue, why not just hang dry them?

hmm i was going to use a homemade carbonfilter for my flower room, why do u say u wouldn't advise one?could u double wrap it with the activated wrap?,i just don't really wanna spend like 80-120 dollars for one, already dumping 340$ so far,(wheres the best priced carbon filters?)
could u use a pc fan for exhaust and dry sheets over it for the dry box?,if u just drying a ounce at a time?or would that not help the smell?

I wouldn't know, I'm a noob and I've never tried a homemade scrubber. I would think it's a matter of how much you need to hide the smell. I'm sure the store bought carbon filter will work better than a homemade one but I have a store bought filter and the smell still seems to find it's way out of my room so who knows.

definetly try the drier sheets in your drier box if that's what you were talking about. they work great for smoke smell so it might work really good for hiding the smell of just an oz while drying.

I would not advise a homemade filter because they will smell. I guarantee it. I guarantee it. it has to do with the break down of something at 75 degrees and it produces smell. so a grow room that is 80 degrees will smell. My whole house smells at times and I have two carbon filters. :-?. I would not trust my freedom to something like a homemade carbon filter. That is my opinion. I use this box to dry my girls and it works great.

Spend the money and get a good filter for your room. I think the main difference is the amount of carbon in the filter. my filters are like 35 pounds each. How can you get that in a homemade filter? Try making a 30 pound filter. I also use good fans on my filters.

Dryer sheets are for dryers. I would think your house would smell like weed and laundry.

I bult one minus the scrubber, and just set it in a corner of my grow room to allow the room scrubber to deal with the smell, also to keep it warm. I keep the RH in the room at 40%. Buds are ready for jars in 3-5 days. :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint: :joint:
